This question is based on Idiomatic Usage and Parallelism.
The verb ‘prefer’ is usually followed by the preposition ‘to’ and not the preposition ‘over’. So, Option A is idiomatically inappropriate and can be eliminated.
In Option B, the phrase ‘would much rather’ replaces ‘prefer’ to convey choice. However, there is a lack of parallelism in this option. The phrase ‘investing in property’ is not parallel to ‘hold cash’. So, Option B can be eliminated.
Option C is idiomatically appropriate and maintains parallelism. So, C is the best of all the options.
Option D has the idiomatically inappropriate expression ‘prefer over’. It also has the redundant present continuous tense ‘are preferring’. So, Option D can be eliminated.
Option E is wordy. Either ‘prefer’ or ‘would rather’ is enough. When one is used, the other is redundant.
Therefore, C is the most appropriate option.
