Yes! I think I'm not taking the private tutor route because I would save up for college applications. Thanks :)

Hi,

I was recently introduced to a private tutor for Quant prep. I have certain financial constraints at the moment as our bonuses/ promotions are on hold. The tutor very kindly agreed to tutor me at a lower cost. I am still not sure of the model and how effective it is. So the tutor said that I could do doubt solving sessions with him. I am not sure of the private tutor model and wanted to understand if it is worth it.

Hi akiara,

If you are capable of studying using an online course, then I don't think it's necessary for you to go with the Private Tutoring. Go with the tutoring sessions only if you need personal guidance from the tutors. Having said that, if you need any help with the Quant section and are looking for a good online course, then I would suggest you to choose the one which helps you to work on your weak areas effectively.

What is GMAT Quant all about?

GMAT Quant is more about the logical reasoning. Even if you are conceptually clear, if you do not use the right methods to solve questions, then there are high chances that you might not score well. After all, GMAT is a time-constraint test and the average time per question is 2 minutes. So, you need to use the best possible method that will give you the solution under 2 minutes.

How to proceed further?

The first step in the process of improving your score is to identify your weak areas. Let me elaborate it to you.

  • Identify those topics
  • Revisit the concepts of those topics (Deal with one topic at a time)
  • Once you finish learning the concept of a particular topic, learn the right methodology to solve questions of that topic
  • Practice a few questions of that topic, making sure that you use the right methodology.
  • Move to the next topic only if you good a decent accuracy
  • If not, identify why are you making the mistake exactly, work on that and repeat the above process.

How does GMATWhiz help you in the process?

The main reason why many students falter in Quant section is that they do not know the question types and the right methods to solve them.

DS questions on GMAT have to be approached in a certain way. Before you jump into solving statements, you need to do certain pre-analysis on the question stem. Once you do that, you will have a clear idea of what information to look for. This will make the process of solving individual statements a lot more simple. Moreover, you need to make sure that you keep the following things in mind while solving DS questions.

  • Do not assume unstated information (Do not assume x to be an integer if not stated in the question stem)
  • Consider all possible cases (Cases such as 0 and 1)

GMATWhiz rightly helps you understand all the question types that are tested on GMAT Quant and will methodically teach you the right approach to solve those question types. If you falter in any topic, the Whiz automatically analyzes your performance and suggests you additional improvement modules for that topic. This way, you don’t have to worry about spending additional time on analyzing your performance, sorting out your weak areas and planning the course of action.

I can help you in a much better way if you can provide me a few more details such as your
  • current study strategy,
  • your weak areas in Quant
  • the number of hours you can dedicate for studies.

You can write back to me here or a better way is to discuss the same over a call. You can schedule a free consultation call with me using the link below.
