If there were no restrictions at all, we could choose a 3-person committee from 8 people in 8C3 = (8*7*6)/3! = 56 ways.
If we were to pick a 3-person committee consisting *only* of women, we could do that in 5C3 = (5*4*3)/3! = 10 ways.
So the number of committees we can make with at least one man must be 56 - 10 = 46.
Alternatively, you could do the problem directly. The number of committees with exactly one man is (3C1)(5C2); the number of committees with exactly two men is (3C2)(5C1); and the number of committees with exactly 3 men is just 1. So the answer will be (3C1)(5C2) + (3C2)(5C1) + 1 = 3*10 + 3*5 + 1 = 46.

1M,2W = 3C1 x 5C2 = 30
2M,1W = 3C2 x 5C1 = 15
3M = 3C3 = 1
Since, any possibilities, sum = 46
1M,2W = 3C1 x 5C2 = 30
2M,1W = 3C2 x 5C1 = 15
3M = 3C3 = 1
