This is combination problem:

In how many ways we can choose 4 people out of 18 applicants? 18C4=18!/14!*4!=3060

Answer: E.

how can I calculate that in the exam?

18! means
18*17*16*15*14....2*1/ (14!-which is)14*13*12*12.....2*1*(4!-which is) 4*3*2*1

nCk=n!/(n-k)!*k!

In our case: 18C4=18!/14!4!=(1*2*3...*18)/(1*2*...*14)(1*2*3*4)

Lot of numbers will just cancel out: from 1 to 14 in denominator and nominator and will get (15*16*17*18)/(2*3*4) --> again 2, 3, 4 will cancel out --> 5*2*17*18=10*306=3060.
