Professional Programs in Public Policy
These programs are worth considering if you are primarily interested in nonprofit management or you have a strong interest in the public sector. A number of schools offer joint MBA/MPA programs if you have strong interests in both fields. For example, NYU allows students to complete both degrees in three years. Harvard’s Kennedy school has joint degree arrangements with HBS, Tuck, and Kellogg. Even if you do not plan to pursue a degree in public policy, some MBA programs allow you to enroll in classes offered by the public policy school.
There is little standardization of the terms used by different universities. Some schools reserve the term “public administrationâ€

I got accepted to Harvard's school of Government last year, but decided to defer the admission to next Fall. Actually, I have not decided whether I should attend the school since I am now more interested in MBA and am applying end of this year. If I get accepted to an MBA program in my dream school, I might choose to pursue MBA only instead of a joint program. However, I wonder if I state in my MBA application to HBS and/or Kellogg or Sloan that I already got accepted to Harvard's MPA program, do you think that will increase my chance of getting into MBA of those schools?
