Hello,

I am just starting my research to understand my chances of getting into one of the top schools (Harvard, Wharton, Kellogg etc.) for an MBA program. I have 10 years of work experience, but not sure if it is enough to be competitive for an EMBA program. Also, I will not have financial sponsorship from my employer, so I am considering full-time or part-time MBA programs as well. Harvard would be ideal in that case.

What are your thoughts on my profile? Thank you in advance!

Background: 30 y.o. female, born in Uzbekistan, immigrated to US at 17 (US citizen now) as part of US Dep't of State Future Leaders Exchange Program.

GPA: 4.0, rank 1/334, small private school in Florida, graduated in 2008. Dual major Economics & Financial Management, finished in 3 years.
3 other colleges attended for random courses over the last 10 years, including grad coursework, all 4.0

Work Experience: 10 years in the same company (private, mid-size, metals industry), advanced to Business Intelligence & Finance Manager, experience and $$ results driving strategy and managing projects across marketing, supply chain, finance, and business intelligence.

Other experience: petty officer in the US Coast Guard (2011-present).
Volunteer firefighter/EMT in a local fire department 2009-2011 (fire and EMT certifications), American Red Cross volunteer, 2011-present

Awards: Elijah Watt Sells (AICPA award, 2016) - Awarded to the 58 of 102,323 CPA candidates who have obtained a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination. CPA certified 2017.
Most Outstanding Economics Graduate Award and a few other awards from college.

GMAT: scored 710 in 2008 (high 90s percentile quant, lower in verbal). I will be retaking and expect to do much better in verbal. Would aim for 750.

Well, the main question would revolve around your work experience - what you have done, how you have progress, what leadership you have, what impact you have had on the company, how you have advanced over time... all of these would help determine your standing.

And yes, a 750 would be very helpful :)

Best,
