I recently took the GMAT and got a score of 740 (Q 47, V 44) but have not received my AWA or IR scores yet.
I am an Asian-American woman who went to Barnard College in NYC, majored in Economics, and graduated in 2007 with a 3.45 GPA. I have been doing the same job since graduation, which is client services for a boutique asset management firm: writing and sending investor reports, planning investor events and handling investor requests. I also have to do menial tasks like answering phones at reception or for the CEO, etc. I took and passed the CFA Level 1 in my first try last year but would like to change my career to accounting and get a job in tax at one of the Big Four and get a CPA. I have had no significant extracurricular activities or community service. However, I have been helping a friend study for the GMAT since June of last year. I plan on being a volunteer tax preparer next year (January-March), but I am not sure if that is already too late (I am applying for the January 15 round). I am trying to become a volunteer tutor for low-income students in NYC but am having a hard time since tutoring usually begins in September/October. If I do get into tutoring, it would not start until the middle of November the earliest. I also began taking a beginner's Mandarin class a few weeks ago.
I am targeting Baruch Zicklin, Fordham and Pace Lubin. I would like to get a merit-based scholarship or assistantship to pay for most of the tuition. I am worried about my lack of community service activities and the fact that I am transitioning careers from a job that sounds more or less like a glorified office assistant. What are the chances that I can get accepted plus get merit-based scholarships from these programs?

Well, your foundation is extremely solid. Between your strong GMAT and your good GPA from your prestigious Alma Mater, you are about as good as you can get in those two items. Your work may not have been as glorious as you liked, whoever, given what you have done, you can probably present it to the schools in a far better light than you have here (And you should of course).
Honestly, as an American female candidate with such a high GMAT, I think you have chance of getting some help from the school. It's hard to predict exactly what or how much, but you are stronger than a lot of their candidates, so there is hope.
The main things you will have to do to succeed here are: 1. In your application make your proposed transition make sense.
2. Make better use of the experience you DO have, both in terms of what you have gained professionally and in terms of what this does for you as you go on towards your goals.
