I took the GMAT today and scored 710 @ 92%le. My Quant Score is 50 and Verbal Score is 35. I have a M.S degree in Electrical Engineering with a GPA of 3.9. Further, I've worked for 2 years as an RF Engineer in the field of telecommunications in the USA and 1 year as a software Engg in India. Additionally, I've a technical paper published at a International Conference held in the USA.
I am planning to apply for admission to Full Time MBA, starting fall'14. Marketing and consulting are my preferred concentrations. I am planning to apply for Duke, UT Austin, Cornell, UM-College Park and UW-Foster. How good are my chances for these schools? Are there any other schools I should be looking at? Do I need to retake the exam to improve my Verbal score?

Hi there,
Thanks for posting. You do have a common applicant profile (engineers from India), so that is always a challenging starting point since you have to differentiate yourself from the rest of that crowd. Your GPA in your masters is excellent and your GMAT is fine/average. The fact that you have some US work experience is a plus. Beyond that, you'll need to work on figuring out what makes YOU unique so that you can showcase that throughout your application... might be your particular experiences, traits, interests, involvements, etc. Community volunteering is a big plus. Showing that you do have strong communication skills and people management skills can help balance your technical profile as well as lower Verbal GMAT.
As for schools, Cornell will be the most challenging on your list, followed by Duke. The others should be fairly in-reach as long as you put together strong essays-- but do not underestimate those, as weak essays can be a good reason to reject a candidate no matter how good other components of the application are. Be sure to think through and solidify your short and long term post-MBA goals.
