I would love some advice regarding my profile, my GPA and undergrad area of study seem unimpressive, and I wasn't planning to apply for many top end b-schools...but then I wrote my GMAT...
Age: 24
Undergrad: 3.0 major in music (BFA)
GMAT: 760 (Q:48 V:47 IR:8)
1.5 years (probably closer to 3 when I submit my app) full time work exp, 1 promotion. Supply Chain for a medium sized IT provider out of Toronto.
Interests/Hobbies:
Training in ASL (level 1, working towards level 2)
10 years training in Classical piano
9 years training in Jazz guitar
4 years training in Jazz Tenor Saxophone
Training in Logic, Reason, Protools, Cubase, Audacity recording/producing programs.
Additional information:
Identified as academically gifted, studied in the Program for Academic and Creative Enrichment (PACE)
CAPM designation, additional PM certificate from university of Waterloo, and selected to be part of the six sigma training program through my company. Ive got volunteer exp through a large radio station (1 yr) and my local church (6 yrs), and hope to end up in the media/ent industry.
Will the low GPA and the relatively obscure area of specialization kill me if I am hoping for admittance to a top 20 university? Or will the high GMAT drag me upwards? I was initially only looking at Canadian schools, but if I could get $$$ from more highly rated euro or US schools then that would awesome!

Hey there!
Congrats on that fantastic GMAT score! You're a killer, dude!
Sooo, if you are aiming for Top 20 You can probably aim for those. Of course it's hard to say where and how when you have another year and a half of work ahead of you, because obviously your work experience will play a significant role, but honestly with a 760, you can't go wrong. One thing you can do, is if you are already doing a Supply chain job of a mid-sized IT shop, is maybe actually try and land a job at a more prestigious firm. I mean if you can move up to a bigger and better job at a bigger and better company it's the single thing that at this point will help you the most out (although keep up that volunteer work!
On the other hand, if you KNOW you want to go into Music/Entertainment, then maybe getting in BEFORE you do your MBA will help. But I'm guessing you're not doing that yet, cause it's hard to get in.
You might want to think about doing some sort of dual degree also. I don't really know so much about music production programs, but I'm sure that NYU and UCLA, and probably USC also have strong music programs (I know their media programs are second to none), and a double degree might get you where you want to go if you want to work in the industry. Plus with your 760, you should have at least a decent shot).

Hey man, that's a ton of help, thanks! I know Schulich does an MFA/MBA joint program over 3 years, maybe the US schools do something similar.
Additionally...is educational background that important? And as far as I can tell...you think my undergrad isn't really hurting me? I see engineers and IT professionals get their profiles criticized all the time for "low" (3.4?) GPAs. But my 3.0 won't eliminate schools like Stern or UCLA?
Does being a white Canadian (with a Spanish last name...but fully white) help? Hinder?
And in regards to the additional project management training through my work...Im the only one on the entire purchasing team (25 individuals) selected for the PM training. Others say my profile lacks leadership experience or opportunities in the workplace...would the PM class suffice? I alo won a marketing competition among the operations team...came up with a logo/mantra and implemented it via social networking, corporate communications, and "swag" for the 150 team members, all within a 3000$ budget.
I've also read that a resume needs to be 1 page...would these experiences be something that I should focus on in a resume or application essay?
