Jon,
I am looking to apply either round 2 this cycle or round 1 next cycle. I'd appreciate any insight you can give me for my admissions chances.
Personal: 25 year old, Asian-American male. US citizen
GMAT: 740 (Q: 87%, V: 91%)
GPA: 3.53 (very strong upward trend, 3.8-3.9 last two years)
Undergrad: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Double majored in Chemical Engineering and Economics
Work Experience: 2.75 years at present. I currently work for a top 3 DoD contractor (Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop) as a manufacturing engineer. I've been with my company almost two years now. Previously, I was at a mid sized (~500 people) kitchen and bath goods manufacturer as a process technician for slightly less than a year.
I do have a couple of stints of unemployment, which totals about 9 months. First stint: About 4 months right out of school; took some time to travel. Second stint: 5 months between my first and second job. I left my first job because I felt it was not challenging enough.
Extracurriculars:
University: I was part of my engineering student body's marketing council as the co-chair of our marketing committee (about a year). I also did some volunteering but did not hold leadership positions.
Post University: I haven't really been involved much outside of work. I've done a few events with my company but nothing major.
Post MBA goals: product management or management consulting
My target schools are mainly the non H/S top-10:
Wharton
Booth
Kellogg
Sloan
Tuck
Haas
Columbia
Yale
What do you think? Is this list too ambitious?
Hey dude,
Well I think your school list is actually fine. I mean you have the GMAT, the school, the GPA, the employer which could get you into top 10.
Now you didn't give me really enough detail so that I could say: aha! you should do this or that....
But let's just say that if you come up with awesome applications, Top 10 should be within range. Plus, since you are open to applying next year, you actually have nothing to lose by applying to as much as you can of your list this year - worst comes to worst, you make your adjustments next year and take a second shot.
Only thing - get started! It's gonna take a whiiiiile for you to get that many applications done.
Cheers,
JF
