Target: Columbia, Booth, Haas, McComb, Mays, Anderson
GMAT: Yet to be taken but expecting between 680-720
Age: 24 years
Gender: Female
Country: Pakistan
Previous Qualification:
-Bachelors of Business Administration from LUMS(one of the top 2 Business schools in the country). Graduated 3rd in undergraduate class with a 3.70 GPA. My school used absolute grading system for all courses and GPA calculation.
-Very strong HighSchool grades. Straight As in O' Levels and A' Levels in all subjects. Concentration was Business subjects.
Work Experience: Been almost an year. Working in a small size private brokerage firm since as opposed to MNC jobs that were available to me. Reason is that I plan to start a brokerage firm myself and thought this kind of job will give me first hand experience. I started here as a research assistant but now handle trades and managerial aspects. Report directly to the CEO.
Also suggest some realistic target b-schools if the ones mentioned seem a hard play. Thank You

Hi there - thanks for sharing your profile with us! My first question is when do you plan to apply? As you may have seen / read, the average years of experience at most programs is 3-5 years, so if you'll only have about 1 year now, you'd be on the low end of that. Not impossible if you plan to apply now, but you'll need to demonstrate solid leadership potential and a clear case for why you need an MBA now. But your grades are excellent, it sounds like you have a clear career path in mind, and I hope you reach a 700+ GMAT score! You also have increasing responsibility at work which is great, often times working for small firms can give you much broader exposure. Being a female applicant from Pakistan could give you a slight edge too. Do you have any work / study experience outside Pakistan? Not necessary, but could also help you to stand out. Lastly, you don't mention anything about community involvement, extracurriculars, unique hobbies...sometimes those things can help you to stand out too. Overall, I think your school list is good. Columbia and Booth could be stretches depending on how the GMAT goes, but the others provide a nice range.

I plan to apply for Fall 2016. That will give me roughly two years of work experience. I was reasonably active in clubs, socities and extracurriculars during college. Besides my formal job, I manage a small home based retail business. I had regularly tutored students of different age groups throughout my college. Quite a few of my students were female kids of domestic help in the locality and underpriveleged neighbours who either couldnt afford formal schooling or needed help to supplment their formal school work.
I also did two internships during summers of my junior and senior year, one of which was a social internship at an NGO focused on education of underprivelage and other at the one of the largest MNC of the country.
Is my plan to apply for Fall 2016 reasonable for will I be seriously at a disadvantage due to less than three years of work experience?
