PERSONAL
• Female, 25
• Citizen in South Asian country, but currently have a greencard.
EDUCATION
• GMAT: 720 (strong quant score)
• GPA: In the range of 3.7-3.8
• Undergraduate: Mid-range ivy (think Penn, Columbia, Dartmouth)
WORKING EXPERINCE
• 3 years at JP Morgan/Goldman Sachs in the investment banking division. Currently an associate. Firm would sponsor me and pay tuition if I return.
EXTRA-CURRICULUM ACTIVITY:
• Nothing eye-popping. Interned at several different banks in college. Run of the mill volunteer work. Worked as a teacher's assistant to help pay for college.
OTHERS:
• Speak four languages
I'm interested in learning about other industries outside of finance, but definitely enjoy my current job. Particularly interested in working in corp dev.
I am applying to Harvard, Wharton, Chicago, and Columbia. Maybe Stanford.
Two questions:
1. What are my odds at those schools?
2. Will I be held back by my lack of interesting extra-curriculars?

Hi there,
Thanks for checking in here. You have a lot of strengths to your profile, and while there are no guarantees and competition is high at the schools you've mentioned, it's worth giving them a shot. Your grades look excellent and GMAT is solid, and it's nice to hear that you'd be sponsored. Sure extracurricular involvement and community involvement could be stronger, but if you're applying now (?) then there's not much you can do on that end. The admissions committees would want to dig deeper into your professional accomplishments and leadership, and see where you've made an impact, what you've done to go above and beyond what was expected where possible, how you've developed your teamwork skills etc. I would hope you'd have solid chances at Chicago and Columbia; of course Harvard and Stanford are going to be tougher and Stanford that much more than HBS given the smaller class size... So it's all about choosing where you see the best fit and prioritizing your school list.
