If it is too much to read, read only the DARK BLUE passages. Brazilian - 25 years old - male
Academic background:
UG: Unfinished BSc in Economics | Graduated in Business (GPA 3.13 – 3.8 during last year)Admitted in first place to an Economics course at one of the countries’ best Federal Universities (in Brazil, Federal Universities do have higher prestige and educational quality than private schools). Invited to some of the best internships available at a state energy company and at a private oil company (for shallow reasons, I did not assume any position and yes, I know, it was stupid of me). I was part of the Junior Enterprise Project as a treasurer.
However, I dropped out of it. What catalysed this idea? I got tired of the provincialism that ruled the social standards in my city. The real reason: my course was directing towards a regionalist and agricultural approach which I did not project in my future, then I decided to drop out to seek an international degree.
Because I was suing a big company (lawsuit which I won, by the way) it took some time to work my VISA out, so during that time I worked both as a realtor and as a teacher at a small reinforcement school (tutoring). More on that below.
Got admitted at an English-speaking private school in Brussels for a BA in Business. I know they have a lot of prestige in the International Relations and Communications areas at the European Parliament (in Brussels), but other than the “wows” in the city of Brussels, I am not sure it is very well known, especially the Business program. I graduated with a low 3.13 GPA, however, my last year’s GPA was 3.8. It is worth mentioning that in my culture grades are not of such importance and initially, I’d genuinely give more energy to study and learn more than to studying the actual exam contents. This changed when I was recommended to an MBA by a professor and realized the importance of grades for admissions (naïve and ignorant me honestly did not think about that before).
Professional Background:
Even though I find it cringeworthy (as if I were being arrogant) to list my accomplishments, especially because I don’t see any of these as competitive or anything, I was told to acknowledge them all, so here they are.
1 month as a realtor (mostly, apprentice) for the largest regional real estate agencyAccomplishments:1. Still as an apprentice, I was charged to train newer apprentices, which was unprecedented in the company;
2. In less than one month I received proposals from many other agencies and construction companies to work directly for them.
7 months as a realtor for the largest construction company in north-eastern BrazilAccomplishments:1. Sold one of the hardest and most expensive estates still as an apprentice;
2. First at the company to completely use social media as a mean of professional contact (regarded as wrong by my seniors, but widely used now).
3. Chose to leave to do something more meaningful as I did not see any personal gain of working in the area, other than financial. (I know it sounds sketchy and an excuse, but it is indeed true, as I was only working to occupy my free time).
1 year as teacher and manager of a small tutoring schoolAccomplishments:1. Created a functional database system which merged student information with payment receipts and increased customization and efficiency.
2. Developed publicity materials (Photoshop and creative skills) and marketing strategy to help the grand opening of a new school unit.
3. Had to leave to go to Business School in Brussels.
Letters of Recommendation
I still don’t know which to choose (and ask), but the best I can think of right now are:
- College’s Dean
o I was her student for Quantitative Research and because I was the only student to achieve 100%, I became a tutor for this class
- College’s Associate Dean / Head of Business and Economics Department
o His student for many classes, he was also my supervisor
- Prominent professor also involved in Belgium’s government and ministry and diverse private institutions in the area of Finance
o My professor for a few classes, the one to recommend me to do an MBA in Finance. He wanted me to go to Imperial College and said he would help me to do so. He has an amazing (and almost unbelievable) network
- Prominent professor with a history of working as CEO and high management for diverse companies, who was stunned by the level of my work during my class with him
- Any of my seniors/bosses at any of my jobs
Extracurriculars
Music/BandAccomplishments:1. While unknown, I personally managed to land us gigs two times in a festival (over 5 thousand attendees) as well as gigs at “hard to get” places;
2. Managed marketing and publicity of the band, almost always crowding every place we played at;
3. Worked at production of a few small festivals together with other bands;
4. Treasured our earnings and managed it to the point where we were one of the few to have own equipment and constantly lend it to other bands and festivals;
5. A few other musical achievements not relevant to business school.
Sport/JudoAccomplishments:1. 2 silver medals on state student's championship (lightweight);
2. 1 bronze medal on state student's championship (open).
GMAT
Without studying I had a
680 at the Economist’s simulation and 610 (Q47 V28) at the GMAC’s simulation, I intend to take a simulation next Sunday after studying for a while. I expect, from my studies, at least 650 in this next simulation. In any case,
I will only apply if I get anything more than 680 (which I am confident will happen).
Career Plan
During college I grew incessantly in love with the FinTech area, especially the social benefits it can provide, being a potential source for financial inclusion. My Thesis was written on this subject.
Since young ages I have been accumulating random skills, and for whatever reasons I do have some skills at programming, which I want to use to aid me on my carrer. Before the academic year starts next year (and after I apply)
I intend to do an Artificial Intelligence micro-master or a Blockchain full course .

Schools I’d like to Apply
Even though I was recommended to do an MBA at Imperial College by my (very prominent and influent) professor, when I did my research, I fell in love with a few other schools such as:
- Bocconi
- EADA
- ESCP
- Nova
- Católica de Lisboa
- LBS
- Stockholm School of Economics
- ESADE

What are my chances at each/any of these schools? Is there anything in my profile that I should evidence, anything that is missing?
