Great, so glad it was helpful! I do think scoring 10+ more points on the GMAT (obviously the more, the better) could be quite helpful. With male finance professionals in particular, AdComs have very high standards for GMAT, so it's definitely worth it, esp. given your 3.3 GPA. And in any case, they'll respect the effort of a retake.

While I don't yet have the full picture of your professional experience (progression/promotions, etc.), I do think that the schools you're targeting are realistic - however, they are all very competitive, for virtually all candidates. So to maximize your chances, I would 1.) apply to as many as you're comfortable doing (and without sacrificing app. quality) in Round 1, and 2. expand your list to schools that are slightly less competitive but still excellent programs.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Nisha! mbaMissionNishaT Super helpful. Appreciate your insight. So in your eyes getting an extra +10/20 on the GMAT is going to move the needle quite a bit? Just trying to determine whether it’s worth rolling the dice again.

Agreed, some introspection will be needed over the next few months but ultimately are the schools above realistic given present credentials? And I have been working for 4 years and 5 by the time I start next year.

Hi Nisha -

So I retook the test and scored worse. I suppose at this point it's not worth taking it again? I'm thinking of applying this upcoming round 1 for Tuck, Sloan, Kellogg, and maybe Booth. If nothing comes from round 1, I think my round 2 schools are Columbia, maybe Duke, and maybe an international program (LBS, Tsinghua-MIT). Any thoughts whether this is a feasible strategy/good targets?

Thanks,
John

Hi - thanks for the update! Depending on how you felt on test day (i.e. whether you feel you did your best) at some point it is best to focus on other parts of the application.

I do think that these are not unreasonable targets, but just keep in mind that they are all quite competitive (Duke just a bit less so than the others you've listed). For Columbia - if you are seriously interested in this school, keep in mind that they have Early Decision and rolling admission. Even if you don't apply ED, I'd get your regular application in as soon as you comfortably can, since spots start to run out as the year goes on.

Best of luck! If you'd like to discuss further, you can sign up for a free consultation with me here: https://www.mbamission.com/consult/?dis ... admissions
