Hi Experts,
I have a score of 680(V31,Q50,IR 5).

I have experience of 4 yrs as a marine engineer.
Whether applying with a 680 and below profile to Kellogg, ISB, SP JAIN or XLRI makes sense ?

It's difficult to say without more detail about you (undergrad school & GPA, impact you've had at work & the extent to which you've been use to use business skills there, etc). A 680 is definitely on the low end, especially if you are an Indian male engineering candidate (which is sounds like you may be based on the details you shared here). It is the toughest demographic when it comes to b-school apps & one that tends to have very high GMAT scores. Generally speaking, people from your demographic who are getting into top 20 schools tend to have GMATs that are 740+. That said, there are ways to outweigh a lower GMAT - the stories you tell through your essays, strong convincing goals, strong LORs, etc. These applications are an art form after all!

It also sounds like you might be an older applicant based on the 2011 date - generally speaking if you are above average age for a b-school they have concerns that you no longer need the degree, so it becomes critical to make a strong "why MBA/why our school" argument -- and that whole argument is based on strong, clear, convincing post-MBA career goals (which are also a way to set yourself apart).

If you'd like to reach out to us we can gather some more detail & give you some more specific thoughts! Feel free to reach out to Claudia at claudia@admissionado.com and she can set you up with a free consultation!
