Hi All. I am interested in pursuing MSc Finance and had a few good universities in mind like LBS, LSE,IE Business School, Bocconi, etc.
But I recently appeared for GMAT and got the following scores:-
Q:49 V:28 IR:6 AWA: 5
Total: 640
Since my score is not a very competitive score, have I lost all chances of applying and should consider a re examination? To give a brief background, I am a Chartered Accountant from India with 2 years of work experience in an investment bank. Also, I will be able to get good recommendations from my supervisors.
Can I use the above work ex to my advantage since most MFin courses don’t require work experience?
Would really appreciate some advice on this. And also, I am in search of people who have a similar profile and would love to get in touch.

Hey there,
Let’s be a bit realistic the only plus point in your profile as of now is your work experience.
Your 2 years of Chartered Accountant work ex. is a valuable asset for your application and will definitely help you highlight your profile.
Your LOR’s would help you with the admission, but you will need to clear out the initial screening phase of the application, so a good GMAT score is highly recommended. Also, you would require to provide more information on GPA, extracurricular activities such as any participation in social organizations, sports or NGOs, awards or any other achievements for me to evaluate your profile and give you solid actionable pointers that can help you better.
Talking about the GMAT score, though it is on the lower end, it can be compensated for by highlighting a very unique skill set - Something that you do better than the others. You could opt for some business courses via MOOCs, an internship in business fields or an NGO experience. Also, schools are interested in knowing about participation so highlight the activities you have taken part in and mention the accomplishments that followed suit.
As for your target schools- LBS, LSE, IE Business School, Bocconi are one of the top schools all over the world and have a good reputation but also are highly competitive so make sure that you spend enough time perfecting your Essay and application.
Apart from your target schools, you can apply for Singapore Management University and the National University of Singapore as these schools do not require GMAT. But remember these schools come under the competitive category so you need stellar essays to make your application stand out.

You have just about zero shot at those schools. LBS MFin does require experience as most students come from the financial services industry. Bocconi isn't touching a 640, nor is LSE. I doubt IE would either.
Also, such a low verbal is going to kill you as well. All of these schools are taught in English as far as I know. You need to be fluent verbally and in writing.
2 years of work experience at an investment bank is nice if you are an investment banker. I am going to assume you are not working in M&A, LevFin, DCM, or any of the other functional areas that would be true front office IB.
My advice - Get that verbal up. It will help you a) get into a program and b) get a job post graduation. 680 and you can start looking at some of the LSE programs.
