Hello all,

My target school is Melbourne Business School and I am applying for the  R3 . So a little anxious about my chances there. Please help me evaluate my profile.

Gender:Female
Nationality: Indian
TOEFL : 114/120
(Reading 27, Listening 30, Speaking 30, Writing 27)

GMAT : 680 (Q49, V34, IR 6, AWA: 5)

Educational Background:
1) Master of Science Degree in Data Analytics Engineering (2016- 2018)
 Northeastern University, Boston USA 
 GPA : 3.68/4

2) BE in Electronics Engineering( 2012 - 2016) 
 University of Mumbai, India
 with CGPA -7.1 (OUT OF 10)

3) XII - 88% (PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS)
 X - 92.8%

Overall Work experience: 2.5+ years in Data Science in USA
a) 1 year at a startup 
b) ~2 years years as Data Scientist is a global service company
c) In-depth and Hands-on experience in Machine Learning and Big Data. 
d) living for the past 5 years in the US (strong international exposure)

It's a good starting point to help you evaluate your decision to apply this year. https://gmat.economist.com/mba-finder/m ... l-time-mba Based on my review of your profile, you might want to hold off on applying until next year for the following reasons: (1) Your GMAT score of 680 - while not bad at all - is below the school's average. Plus, the imbalance between your strong quant score and below-average verbal score may raise some questions. If you hold off on applying, I would strongly urge you to retake the exam and focus on bringing up your verbal score a few points as that will have a disproportionately good effect on your overall score. (2) You are on the younger side for applicants. An extra year, give or take, will help your profile as it'll take pressure off of your grades/scores, which are fine but not stellar. (3) Regardless of when you apply, you should refine your career goals. A post-MBA focus on consulting is not going to help differentiate you from other candidates. While many MBAs do go into consulting, it's best not to talk about that in an MBA application as it is very commonplace. Try to think creatively about a larger, more unique vision based on your experience and interests. That will really make a huge difference! As many will tell you, Round 3 is tricky. It's usually designed for truly unique candidates coming from interesting backgrounds that can help round out the class. I am not seeing that in your profile at the moment. It basically helps balance out your profile since schools are more focused on accepting candidates who have a holistically manoeuvered profile. To give you a brief idea of how to go about this, you can maybe talk about your involvement in any CSR activities to showcase your socially responsible traits or you could also take up certifications related to the niche you want to build your career in. This way your soft skills paired with your social skills can ultimately vouch for the budding leader within you.

Speaking of Melbourne Business School, it falls under the competitive category (where you have a 60-70% chance of acceptance). Besides, I would suggest that you hedge your bets wisely by targeting a good mix of 6-8 Competitive schools such as RMIT, Australia National Univ, UNSW Sydney, Macquarie Business School and University of Queensland.
