You have a super strong profile and the fact that you'll retake GMAT having such a good score talks wonders about you. I think that the Schools you are targetting will welcome you. My advice is that you apply in R1, but even in the last round of this year you have a chance.

Hi deepika228,

Thanks for your post!

First, talking about your GMAT 720 is a good score, and I’m almost definite that you would achieve the target of even 740+ with just a little more practice! Also, I would say that you have a good overall GPA in both your UG and M.tech.

Now coming to your work experience, I would say six years in a government sector accounts for relevant experience, and you pass the experience bar for all the schools as mentioned above, you will need to showcase the challenges, the major projects currently undertaken by you, your role & responsibilities and some of your most profitable projects & achievements. Also, since international experience is an important component of an overall profile, I would like you to mention your experience as an international volunteer briefly and try to mention why you chose to help, what was your leadership role and what was the driving force behind your decision, and how you are always ready to help and do justice to the society (because those are some values the B-schools look for)

Coming to your ECAs & hobbies, ten medals plus certificates would definitely showcase your commitment and characterize your hunger to stay on top, while your hobbies showcase your diversity and appetite for knowledge. However, I feel compelled to tell you that with such good hobbies and ECAs, you must try to exemplify the skill-set developed and how this extra knowledge and skill would help you in your MBA and post-MBA goals. All of this information would help the adcom know you better other than just your academic accolades!

All in all, I would say you have good ECAs, your post-MBAS goals seem relevant, you have a quality experience, and a score of 740 would definitely make it easy for you to book a slot in the MBA program. However, I would also like to highlight that INSEAD, HEC Paris, and Oxford said are top b schools not only in Europe but in the world. Since you are from an overrepresented pool, you would face fierce competition, and a heck of a lot of your selection is directly proportional to your essays and interview. So you must work on making your essays elegant unique and try to mold them into a story to catch the attention of the adcom! As a matter of fact, we would love to help you with your essays and make your profile more robust so, If you wish to connect or need any further help regarding your application, in that case, you could always reach out to us for more in-depth professional help. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

All the best for your GMAT! :)
Happy learning!

Hi Readwander,

Thanks for your post!

First, I would like to congratulate you on backing a 740 in your GMAT, and I’m almost definite that you would achieve the target of even 740+ with just a little more practice! Also, I would say that you have a great overall GPA of 9.05 in your UG!

Coming to your ECAs & internships, you do have some short-term relevant examples of leadership. Also, you have won awards that would showcase your commitment and characterize your hunger to stay on top, while it also showcases your diversity and appetite for knowledge. Also, part-time positions and internships are important components of deferred MBA hence are completely valid accolades! However, I feel compelled to tell you that with such good ECAs and awards, you must try to exemplify the skill-set developed and how this extra knowledge and skill would help you in your MBA and post-MBA goals. All of this information would help the adcom know you better other than just your academic accolades!

Also, I would recommend you work on making your essays elegant unique and try to mold them into a story to catch the attention of the adcom! Also, being a deferred candidate, you still have time to add to your work experience and enough chances to make your profile more robust.

I see potential in you and would say that you could target any of the top deferred MBA programs once you work on some minute points! You may want to read the article on what business schools look in the candidate for deferred MBA programs. This article will help you understand your chances for deferred MBA programs. Hi deepika228 , as an Indian female applicant with an IIT tag and unconventional work experience in infrastructure development in an emerging economy such as India, you have a very strong chance of making it to your target schools. In your application, do focus on highlighting challenges faced by you while working in a psu and present on ground reality of issues you may have seen through your work. Demonstrate your leadership skills and ability to create impact with an iron will. What is your vision for which you seek an MBA from such global pedigreed B Schools? How would you as a woman leader give back to your country? Addressing these points strongly will give your application a distinct edge and put you in a favorable position.

If you wish to seek professional guidance do reach out.

Best wishes
