Hey there!
Very good to hear from you. Actually from your profile post I can tell that you write pretty well, so we are expecting amazing essays from you! :)

Overall your profile is quite good. The three main strategic advantages I see in your profile are:
- You are female
- You have led people early in your career
- You write well.

On the weakness side is:
- Your GMAT for your profile (Indian) and target schools
- Your industry

when you write that your school was Tier 1, do you mean IIT? Because if so, then you can add it to the strengths side of the scale, if not, then it becomes a weakness.

Overall, I feel that applying to Top 10 schools alone would be overly ambitious given your profile, but that if you spread out your applications (say 6 schools or so) over the Top 20 you will have far better chances of securing an admit.

The only question remaining is WHEN you want to apply - this year's round two is miiiiiighty near!

Let me know, and if you have any other questions do not hesitate,
Best,
Jon

Thank you for the detailed feedback, JonAdmissionado. After careful consideration (and against the will of my family - perils of being from a society that makes life look like a ticking bomb :( ), I have decided R1 next year will be the wise choice for me. Also going to retake the GMAT (admittedly, I so didn't want to since current life doesn't permit much free time, but if I'm aiming high I'll have to work harder, I guess) to improve the quant score.

Hopefully, that might tackle weakness 1. And by industry do you mean engineering? 'Coz I am into product management now, and might move into marketing (a sphere where I get opportunities far more easily due to my social media experience and creativity) for a global brand since a) I do not enjoy the work culture here b) I'm not the dumbest kid in the room right now.
And no, I didn't mean IIT. Delhi College of Engineering is considered Tier-1 in India but I suppose that's not the case with international schools.

Can you also help me understand the following:
a) Will a career move into marketing at this time ruin my application?
b) What top schools can be considered Safety Schools for me with the current profile?
c) Why are US MBA consultancy services priced so expensively even for Indians - the currency difference makes it close to impossible to afford... okay, sorry, this may be ignored. :-D

Hey!
Good to hear from you!

Soooo let me answer your questions:

a) Not if it its what you want to get into. and not if it can be perceived as a move up (better salary, more responsibility, etc.)

b) maybe schools in the 20-30 range???

c) Well, the pricing is of course based on the market and on what we need to pay our consultants. and we can't really price it for India unless we hire Indians who have never been to a US college... and well... :) That wouldn't be a a good business model. But also, I would point that that I think even if it seems very expensive at this juncture, it's more than well worth it to propel yourself and your application into a higher school (which translates into a higher lifetime salary) and the 5-6000 dollars it costs will seem like peanuts when you have to shell out 200,000$ for B-school anyway :)

Cheers,

JF
