Hoping to get some input on my profile, considering some of the higher tier Canadian Schools, however I am considering applying to several US schools and am wondering what level of schools I should be targeting. Please let me know if some of the schools I've listed are unrealistic.
Schools I was hoping to target:
UCLA - a stretch
ASU (Carey)
Dartmouth (Tuck) - a stretch?
Duke (Fuqua) - a stretch?
Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
Cornell
U of Toronto (Rotman)
UBC (Sauder)
Western (Ivey)
York (Schulich)
All comments are welcome.
27 year old Caucasian Male (Canadian)
720 GMAT Score (V - 41(94%), Q - 48(73%), IR - 6, AWA - 5)
Education:
University of Calgary - BSc. Petroleum Engineering
GPA = ~2.95 (middle tier Canadian University, but known for a stronger engineering program)
Note - GPA = 3.3-3.4 if only final 2 years are used for GPA calc (most Cdn Universities do this) as my grades increased greatly throughout my university experience.
Work Experience:
Most Recent: ~2 yrs as an Engineer working for an Intermediate Canadian Oil&Gas producer in a semi-technical role (reserves filings, cash-flow modelling, economic sensitivities, etc.).
Less Recent:~2 yrs as an Engineer at a Petroleum Consulting company, performed economic evaluations for reserves filing purposes, A&D due diligence, etc. as well as some more technical reservoir studies.
Least Recent: Pre-graduation internship (16 months) at a Junior Cdn O&G producer.
Extra Curriculars:
Admittedly pretty weak, some minor volunteering, but no student associations or sports.
My main problem is a low undergrad GPA and weak extra-curriculars. As well I'm wondering if US schools look at Canadian Universities poorly.
Thanks,
