Greetings,
I have recently started my journey into the MBA world and now I am overwhelmed and looking for insight. My profile is as follows:
GMAT: 720
Undergrad: low ranked state university, 3.9 GPA (summa cum laude), BSBA accounting
graduate degree: same university, 3.8 GPA, Master of Accounting
Work Exp: 2 years to date at local public accounting firm (non big-4).
Certifications: Licensed CPA
Extra curricular: minimal in past 5 years. Alumni Mentor a few times at my university and a few days volunteering for various charities through work. I have traveled extensively in the past 3 years if that counts as a valid extracurricular.
Recommendations: Strong
Dream school: Stanford. Would be happy with most of the top 20 schools.
I see some schools allow applications until March 2014 to attend August 2014. I am debating applying now or holding off and building my profile for 2015. Any advice or feedback greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your time.
Hey there,
So first of all for SURE hold back till next summer. A) It's basically too late now anyhow B) You are on the cusp of not having enough WE. So nothing bad will come from patience!
For your profile, fantastic GMAT, and amazing grades! Whether you have the profile for Top 10 schools is a tough question though. First of all, accounting is a tougher industry to come from (the schools get a LOT of apps from accountants, and its perceived as quite different from a lot of the traditional MBA work, and lots of apps from accountants in Big 4), and not coming from a top school will also make things tougher, especially at H/S/W.
Soooo the game-making question is what else do you have to offer? Other than good grades and good GMAT, WHO are you? What do you want? What are your goals? What ELSE have you done? Otherwise, yes you have a great base profile, but the top 10 programs will be looking for this extra stuff, so think a bit about what you have to offer them.
Makes sense?
