Hey everyone,

I’m trying to finalize my applications and could really use some advice.

Target programs ranking:
  1. Oxford MFE
  2. LBS MFA
  3. LSE MFin
  4. HSG MBF
  5. Imperial MFin

Profile:
  • GMAT Focus: 595 - V85, Q77, DI77 (≈650 equivalent - first try). From what I’ve seen, Oxford seems to require at least ~645-675, so I’m basically out there, right?
  • TOEFL iBT: 110+
  • GPA: 4.0 (best of cohort)
  • Internships: multiple M&A and PE internships (tier 2 IBD, top PE fund, boutique advisory)
  • Strong Extracurricular activities and rommendations

The dilemma:
  • Apply now with 595. Maybe skip Oxford, but try the other 4.
  • Retake at end of March. Risk of little/no improvement, but also realistic chance to push into 675+. But Oxford’s deadline (March 9) would be missed anyway.
  • Apply to all 5 now with current score and just see what happens.

Questions:
  1. Is Oxford completely unrealistic with 595 (650 eq.), even with a strong overall profile?
  2. How competitive are my chances at the other schools with this score?
  3. Would you retake or just apply with what I have now?


Any input would be super helpful. Thanks!

Here is a response to your questions:

1. Oxford will be tough with this score. We would recommend that you retake the test and apply.

2. You definitely stand a better chance than what you stand at Oxford. Of course, applying with a better score here would also translate to better chances. Still, you may give it a shot.

3. Retake and apply (at least to Oxford). Applying while knowing this is not your best shot will not make this experience a meaningful one at all.
