Hi,

Basically i need guidance on how fit my profile is and how should i approach. Before putting forward my doubts let me present myself:

1) Basic demographic info: 31, Male, India

2) Educational Background: 10th (81.2%), 12th (77.0%), B.Tech (64.4% - India), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Major in Finance - 65.9% - India)

3) GMAT: 670 (V: 33, Q: 49)

4) Work experience (5 years): Currently working as a Team Lead in an Investment Banking Division of a Financial Research MNC.

My main reasons to go for further studies are to upgrade my skills and to add global exposure as all of my education and work experience have been in India itself. As i am more inclined towards technical skills, my focus is on post experience masters in finance but there are very few colleges who entertain experienced candidates. Due to this, and to open up my options i am also planning to apply to some good MBA schools in Europe with good finance track record, such as ESADE, HEC, SDA Bocconi and Warwick (you can suggest few more).

Now my dilemma is with this current profile and with already one post graduation, will i have any chance to get through any college or should i work on my GMAT score and give it another chance. Please help me out and if needed i can answer further questions for better evaluation.

P.S. - Cambridge's Post experience Masters in Finance have already declined my profile due to my low graduation marks (they are very strict with graduation marks).

Hi there,
Thanks for posting. I think the thing you can do at this point to make the most impact, in addition to putting together strong applications, is work on that GMAT... have you taken it multiple times? Taken a prep course or worked with a tutor? Without a stellar GMAT it could be tough given your grades were a bit lower than some in undergrad... and why not try to give yourself your best possible chance, right? I think your school list sounds reasonable (though HEC can be a bit tough on GMAT/grades too); others to look at include CASS, Cranfield, Manchester, IE (may be a bit tough though), ESSEC, maybe Rotterdam.... can investigate those further to make sure there are none there of interest too. Good luck, and if you'd like to speak further at any point, we offer consultations at www.mbamission.com/consult (30 min, no charge, where you send your resume). Take care!

Thank you Jen,

I think, i too believe to give myself another best possible chance on GMAT, this time with much better preparation. This was my second attempt (first attempt score was 610) and i did mostly self study, so i think there is a chance to improve. But then i might be late for R2 deadline if i give GMAT another chance, thats why half minded.

Gotcha; well there are a few different approaches... I think worse case, you still give it one more shot just in case right?? Even if you don't prep much. It could help potentially. Another approach is focus on a few apps for R2, and a few more for a slightly later deadline (some of those European schools have more than 3 rounds, and applying in spring is not as competitive as it is for say US schools), and see if/where another GMAT could fit in there. Even with a few weeks of prep though, another try could pay off (coming from someone with hundreds of hours of GMAT teaching and tutoring under my belt in the past!). Good luck!
