Hi VSJ,

Thank you for sharing your profile info with us! I'm going to focus on the US programs that you listed, since it sounds like admission to one or more of those is your top-priority goal.

First, to address the academic side of your profile: if your GMAT score lands between a 700 and 730, that positions you well in the applicant pools for the US schools on your list. To be competitive, you ideally want to score at or above the average GMAT for any given school. For the programs you listed, that's anywhere between a 700 and a 730 (with most of the programs at the 720-730 level). Your undergraduate studies were quite awhile ago now, so the important thing for you will be to explain how you have since compensated for any weaker grades in quantitative courses in particular, if that was the case. For example, we've had clients who had lower grades in undergraduate math or economic courses and who later demonstrated either through post-undergraduate job responsibilities, through professional certifications, or through a strong GMAT performance that they have shored up their quantitative skills.

Second, the most important challenge that I see with your application will be convincingly explaining the full arc of your career trajectory, from the work experience that you've accumulated so far through your future post-MBA goals. As you've rightly pointed out yourself, there are some gaps in your work history that need to be addressed. It's important to provide clear, straightforward explanations (such as family tragedy) but not veer off into excuses or justifications. Admissions officers are looking for grounded, mature future business leaders who accept responsibility for their choices and decisions, so you want to make sure you demonstrate that in your essays.

There's another gap in your story that I also see -- you say that your future career goals lie in health care, but you don't have any educational training or work history in the medical field. Admissions officers will home in on this fact and will scrutinize your resume, essays, and recommendation letters for clues that show that you have a genuine interest in health care and that you have skills and knowledge from your past that will be transferrable to this new field. This is what I mean about the arc of your career trajectory -- how well can you connect the dots of your personal story, from your undergraduate studies, through your pre-MBA work experience, through business school (why do you believe so strongly that you need an MBA in order to achieve your professional goals?), and up to your post-MBA ambitions in a completely different field? Does your story make sense to an outsider, and can that outsider clearly see how moving into health care and biopharma outside of India (this is an important point too, since you haven't had any work experience outside India before now) is realistic and believable for you?

We'd be happy to chat more with you about this if you're interested! Please feel free to reach out to us at https://www.admissionado.com if you'd like to arrange a free consultation with our team.

Best of luck!
