Hi everyone, I am eyeing for ISB in Round 3 (2025). I gave the GMAT FE and got a low score (635). I want to understand how much score should I target in my next attempt given my profile-

I am have done my Btech from IIT BHU, my academics- 10th/12th/Grad are 95%, 95.4% and 94.3%. Currently working at American Express as Assistant Manager since last 2.5 yrs.
Extra curriculars are not that great- Was a member of the dance club in college, placement representative, volunteered for some college festivals and a member of the social service council. In my workplace too, I am involved in some event coordination.

Please suggest how I can improve my overall profile, and some tips to increase my GMAT score in the next attempt. I am mainly lacking in Verbal section.

Hello aspirant2090,

Aiming for a balanced score in excess of 655 will be important; the higher the better.

With regard to the essays, you may find the following video helpful:

Good luck!

Hi aspirant2090 , I hope you are doing well!

Your academic background (IIT BHU with great scores) and professional experience at American Express demonstrate strong analytical and leadership potential, aligning well with ISB's profile preferences. However, a GMAT score of 635 is significantly below ISB’s average (710+), making it crucial to target a score of at least 665+ in your next attempt to remain competitive. The higher the better. To improve your GMAT Verbal performance, consider focusing on reading comprehension strategies and working on official guides or reputable resources like GMAT Club or e-GMAT. Joining a structured prep. course tailored for Verbal improvement could also help. Regarding your extracurriculars, while they show participation, try to focus more on any leadership or measurable impact. You can also highlight recent workplace initiatives where you’ve demonstrated teamwork or innovation to strengthen your profile. What's going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

Cheers!

Hi Shantanu,

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I just want to clarify- since my score of 635 in the GMAT FE equals almost 690 in the classic GMAT, you are suggesting me to improve my score and target around 720 as per the classic GMAT (which is 665-675 in GMAT FE). Is this understanding correct?

Dear aspirant2090

Lets start with the strengths that we immediately see in your profile and that would be your academic performance which has been impressive throughout and will add weight to your candidature.

However, ISB evaluates a profile from multiple different aspects (namely GMAT score, academics, work experience and extracurricular) and having a well rounded profile increases your chances of admission.

Talking about areas of enhancement in your profile, lets first talk about the GMAT score and we believe a score of 645+ shall be able to help you put forth a competitive profile. The good part is that you have already identified where you have to improve upon to get to a better score and we believe given the limited time you have before the Round 3 deadline, perhaps coaching support for targeted preparation could do wonders for your score as we have seen happen for numerous successful candidates.

Secondly, about work experience and extracurriculars, we just want to say that perhaps you will need to look back at your journey so far and pen down stories or instances which you feel proud of, or which became turning points for you. Sometimes its easy to miss the little impact stories we have witnessed along the way, which only get uncovered with a bit of thought and introspection.

We will be happy to have a more detailed discussion with you to understand your profile better and support you through your application journey. Feel free to block our time at : https://calendly.com/reachusfly/15min/
