Profile evaluation and suggestions

Question

I’m a final year student studying BSc Economics aiming for MiM at Hec Paris. I have a cgpa of 8.6 and 4 internships in fashion, retail and marketing. I am an active social worker with leadership positions in college societies. I am yet to take the GMAT. I am an active sportsperson and I love reading, movies, sewing, cooking, tennis among other things! 
What I’m worried about is international exposure. 
I need help with a profile evaluation and how to make my profile better if I can, and if there’s anything else I need.

- Your CGPA is fine and internships look promising. They may seem scattered right now, but you need to connect them into a clear goal and structured story.
- Extracurriculars are decent. Volunteering plus leadership roles in college societies work in your favor.
- Focus strongly on GMAT. As an Indian applicant, you should aim much higher than the published average. Target a 99th percentile score.
- Do not worry too much about international exposure. For MiM, what matters is what you have done so far, which is good academics, active extracurriculars, and strong internship performance. In internships, clearly show both qualitative and quantitative impact you have had on the companies through your performance.

What your post buries is the most interesting part of your profile. Fashion, retail, marketing internships plus sewing as a hobby isn't a "scattered" CV the way an earlier reply framed it. It's a through-line, and HEC reads it.

- HEC sits inside the European luxury and consumer goods ecosystem in a way few global schools do. LVMH, Kering, L'Oréal all recruit heavily out of that campus. A MiM candidate who genuinely lives in that world reads as fit, not as unfocused. Lean into it in your essays instead of apologising for it.

- On the GMAT debate above, the thread is mixing scales. The old "700+" target sits on the retired Classic scale. The current GMAT Focus equivalent is roughly 645+ for that percentile band, which is what Archit was actually pointing at. You don't need 99th percentile for a MiM with an 8.6 Econ CGPA. A clean Focus mid-to-high 600s with strong quant does the job. Optimise, don't grind.

- International exposure at the MiM stage is read differently than at MBA stage. Adcoms know you're 21. What they actually look for is language depth (even basic French helps the read), an exchange semester, or work with international clients during your internships. If even one of your four internships touched cross-border work, that's the line to surface, not skip.

- Watch the application timing. Earlier rounds historically carry better odds and scholarship traction at most European MiM programs, so verify HEC's current round deadlines on their admissions page and front-load rather than polishing forever.

Frame the fashion and retail thread into a sharp post-MiM vision, something like brand strategy in European luxury or consumer goods marketing across India-EU corridors, and you read as a niche admit instead of another high-CGPA generalist. That's the actual lever here.

Hi  quasdebitis . Most applicants misunderstand what schools mean by "international." It is not necessarily foreign internship, or international degree. Schools want evidence that you can thrive in a diverse environment. For example: working with people from different backgrounds, participating in global competitions, international volunteering, foreign language learning, international case competitions or global online projects.

For now, focus on GMAT. You can add 1 international dimension. One meaningful addition is enough. HEC also looks for leadership impact.

Questions you can ask yourself and answers to these will be help you while crafting your essays:
Why Fashion, Retail and Marketing? Is there a common thread? Consumer behavior? Brand building? Luxury? Retail strategy?
Why MiM?
Why not work for 2-3 years and pursue an MBA later? HEC can ask this indirectly.
What is your career goal? Which one is the real goal?
What leadership story best represents you?
 
 A challenge you solved  
 A team you led  
 A project you built   
That story will likely become the centerpiece of your application.
