Work Experience
I have been working in my family-owned manufacturing business (annual revenue: INR 40 crore) for the past three years. I initially joined with little practical knowledge and gradually developed strong technical and business expertise. Over the years, I have worked across Production, Purchasing, Logistics, and Sales. For the past year, I have primarily been responsible for Sales and Marketing.
Production & Planning – I understood the existing manufacturing processes and implemented improvements that made them more efficient and faster.
Purchasing – I developed detailed costing sheets for each finished product and reduced manufacturing costs by up to 5%.
Logistics – I compared pricing among our existing logistics partners, identified a new logistics provider, and improved delivery speed while reducing transportation costs.
Sales – I collaborated with the existing sales team, hired additional sales personnel across the country, and developed a strategic plan to drive sales growth over the coming years.
What I Expect from an International MBA:
1. Build a strong professional network.
2. Learn new business strategies and management practices.
3. Broaden my global perspective and business vision.
Post-MBA Goals:
After completing my MBA, I plan to work for a multinational manufacturing company for a few years to broaden my experience beyond my family business. I want to strengthen my expertise in global marketing, international business, and large-scale business systems. In the long term, I plan to return to my family business to help scale it further or start my own venture in India.
My Thoughts on My Profile:
I understand that my GMAT score and undergraduate GPA are slightly above average rather than exceptional. However, I believe my experience working across multiple business functions in a manufacturing company gives me a broader perspective than candidates who have worked in only one functional area. This exposure has allowed me to understand how different departments interact and contribute to overall business performance.
I may be overestimating the value of this experience, but I would appreciate your honest assessment of my profile.
Please let me know what you think. Do suggest if I can target any other good universities in Europe, Singapore and Middle-East.

A retake and improvement of GMAT score will significantly boost the chances. All the Best.

Where you see a "slightly above average" profile, adcoms at these schools will see something more specific: a family business operator with cross-functional depth, a credible return-to-India narrative, and a score that needs a story around it.
• The 625 Focus Edition sits closer to the Classic 680 range, which is below the stated medians at IMD and NUS; those two schools will want to see the quant subscore (Q88 is actually a relative strength here) called out explicitly in your application to counter the headline number.
• Your cross-functional arc, production through sales, matters more than you think, but the way you have described it is still operational; adcoms will push on where you drove a decision, not just a process change, so the 5% cost reduction and the new logistics provider are the moments worth expanding.
• WHU and IE are more accessible at your score range and actively recruit profiles with entrepreneurial family-business backgrounds, making them genuinely better bets than reach programs where the score gap is harder to offset.
For other targets, consider ESADE, Mannheim, or Hult, each of which values manufacturing and emerging-market applicants and sits at a realistic score range for you.
