Hi,
I posted this on Reddit earlier, so this is a copy paste:
New to the forum and I made a throwaway. I'm interested in my chances for applying to a JD MBA as a 1L (started this month).
Background
Work experience: CPA that worked at a very well known Fortune 100 company in corporate accounting (forecasting/closing process, etc) for two years. Also did some teaching at the community college for about a year. Stopped to attend law school.
Extra curricular: Own a tutoring company in my spare time (for about 2.5 years). Was chairperson of the finance committee/director on a board of directors at a 501(c)(3) for 1.5 years before I started law school.
Undergrad school/major: Big Ten business school: Accounting/Finance/Economics (3.9 GPA); MS: Accounting 4.0 (got this for the CPA hours and it was discounted as a 5th year).
Other education/coursework: Started at a top 3 school (one of Yale, Harvard, Stanford) in August. I am interested in applying to a top 5 MBA during 1L year. I know my current university will shave a year off the MBA, but I'm not sure if that's possible if I pursue an MBA at another school.
Race/nationality: White
Sex: Male
Stats
GMAT Score (include breakdown!): 720 (Q47, V41, 8 IR). I'd like to not retake since 1L year is so time consuming and latest to apply to HBS for example is Jan 4. EDIT: I should also say that I took the GMAT earlier today (Sep 1, 2018), which is why I didn't post this earlier. The schools listed in the title are the schools I told the GMAT to send my score to.
Undergrad GPA: 3.86 (Is it ok to say 3.9?)/4.0 (Accounting, finance, economics); top 5%. MS Accounting: 4.0/4.0 (Class rank: 1st)
MBA Info
Goal of MBA: Go back to my Fortune 100 company. They want me to get some law firm experience and a lot of the tax or technical accounting positions are JD MBAs. Lots of internal corporate counsels are JD, CPA, MBAs and I'm attracted to those positions.
Target schools: HBS, Wharton, Stanford, MIT, and Booth will get my GMAT score. I'm not sure if I'll apply to others. I'd like to get an MBA now since I don't know if I'll ever go back to school after law school and I can save a year.
EDIT #2: I am also 27 years old if that's helpful. Took a gap year after my MS in accounting to take care of my aunt who had severe illness (for about 10 months). I included an addendum in my law school app accounting for this gap...I'm not sure if I need to do so for an MBA application since it was from 2015-2016.
