Hi guys/girls,
Bit of background:
College: Griffith Uni (Queensland Australia)
Bachelors: Finance
GPA: 3.2
Age: 32
Work History:
Grew up in South Africa. Studied Bcomm Finance in Australia. Started working at BHP Billiton (mining sector) in management accounting/analyst role for 2 yrs. Moved to New Zealand into a business analyst role (construction industry) where I've been for the last 5 yrs. My current role includes a mix of feasibility studies using financial modelling, cost accounting, and some forecasting and budgeting.
Looking at doing an MBA in 2019 to make a transition into an industry/company I am more passionate about. These include sports/health industries (think cycling company or health food company). Feel like this is a good time to make a change as I don't have a mortgage or family yet. Also, I don't want to pursue a career in accounting.
Considering Cape Town (South Africa) as the cost of full-time MBA and living costs are a lot lower. UCT was top 70 school on ft top 100 until last year. Not sure how employable that makes me internationally though.
So I guess my questions are:
Will an MBA allow me to more easily jump into one of those industries?
Is it vital that I do an MBA at a prestigious school or could one in SA still provide me ample competitiveness/opportunities?
Thanks for your time,
Francois
