Profile evaluation for ISB

Question

Hey all, I need a profile evaluation for ISB. I aim to apply in R1.

Graduation: Mechanical Engineering from Thapar University, Patiala. CGPA: 9.12
Class XII: State Board: 88.2%
Class X: ICSE: 92.3%
Campus Placement: Accenture (second highest package in Mechanical branch) 
GMAT classic score : 720

Work experience: Working as a Software Developer at Accenture with work experience ~ 3 years. Job responsibilities include to formulate, develop, test and maintain the functionalities using niche technology SAP Hybris. I lead and coach a team of 4 Associate Software Engineers. I provide them technical guidance, assist them in completing sprint deliverables and to make the resources project ready. I am single handedly responsible for maintaining code quality and code coverage in my team. I have received the highest appraisal in the 2022 appraisal cycle in my team. I have worked on and successfully completed complex technical client requirements without any defects.

Awards: 
1. Received Recongition award for integrity from onsite manager in Accenture 
2. Received Recongition award for Exceptional work and dedication from on-site manager in Accenture 
3. Honoured with Sports Boy of the year award in 2015 at school

Extra curricular: 
1. Mess Secretary in Hostel C and Mess member in Hostel B at Thapar University 
2. Joint Secretary at Thapar Adventure Club
3. Co-Founder and First Aid Head at NGO: Campus PFA TIET
4. Core member of Paryavaran Welfare Society at TIET
5. Sports Captain in Class X

I am a re-applicant. I applied for CO’25 and made it to the interview round but could not get through. I did not take any admission consultation which I regret.
Can someone please evaluate my profile and guide me towards an admission consultation, please? I am yet to start with the application process.

Apart from ISB, what are the other B schools I am eligible for as of now? I have GMAT score only.

Please find my evaluation of your profile.
GMAT: Avg.

Academics: Good

Work Experience: Avg.; while there a number of bright spots in your profile including project handling, technical subject matter expertise, and hands on experience with end-to-end SDLC, I don’t see any differentiators that will help you stand out among the highly competitive pool of Indian IT applicants.

Recommendation: Try to come up with compelling narratives around your experiences and skillsets add to the peer-to-peer learning of the cohort. Also, focus more on the business impact of your work on the end client rather than showcasing technical brilliance. While you state that you managed the work of 4 juniors, its important to highlight the challenges you faced while doing, and how did you overcome them with your unique strategy in pursuit of a common goal.

Extra-Curricular: Seems like most of your EC participations were till when you were in college. This doesn’t demonstrate passion behind your endeavour. I will suggest that you zoom in to one EC and demonstrate how you have pursued it even post college in some capacity. Consistency is super critical.

Reapplication Narrative: Mention 2 aspects of what changed between then and now. One of them should be around work ex. got involved in a high impact project... and narrative around it..., other should have a personal angle ex. started speaking more in public / tried to improve communication skills / picked up a new language from Duolingo etc. (Please note that there is NO right or wrong answer here)

School Options:
Besides ISB, you can consider schools in Singapore such as NUS/NTU, HEC in France, and Tepper, Cornell and similar in the USA. While Rotman is also a good option, based on the current employment scenario in Canada, it is better not to risk the next phase of your career there.

However, it is very important to highlight significant changes in your profile since the last application cycle. This could include promotions, new responsibilities, additional certifications, or maybe some more impactful projects that you worked on. Very clearly demonstrate to the adcoms how you've grown personally and professionally since your last application.

While considering other schools you can think about LBS, INSEAD, Booth and maybe CBS too. These are some top programs which you can target. You will also have to focus on building a compelling narrative about your profile and how an MBA will help you achieve your aspirations. Also communicate your plan to contribute to the ISB community.
