To improve your odds of getting into top U.S. business schools and securing possible scholarships in the process, the following strategies should be your priorities for the next year: Begin by preparing for the GRE with an ultimate target of attaining a score of 330 and above with the help of a study schedule and simulated tests aligned in the following manner: Make an effort and gain extra qualifications directly related to strategy consulting, for instance, data analysis and leadership skills; apply for leadership positions at your workplace or apply to volunteer organizations. It is necessary to maintain networks, so you should talk to the alumni practicing in the respective field for assistance.
Also, advance your startup and participate in business competitions as a way of demonstrating your entrepreneurial aggression. In your application, come up with a strong story that explains the realities of the first-generation college student tag, the story of your gap year starting after college, and the three years that you dedicated to preparing for competitive exams. Though you were able to pass the prelims and did not sit for the mains for this exam, this period helped you fine-tune your persistence, time, and self-motivation skills before you got a job that well-suited you in consulting, where you flourish. For every target school, find the school’s values and the kind of scholarships they offer because there are many scholarships for students with merit that would be perfect for your profile.
