Hello,

I am new to this forum. Not sure if I'm posting in the right place

I am planning to attempt GMAT in September. Been scoring 680-710 in mocks. And my target score is 740+. I am looking for an MBA program in top 10 schools only. My profile is as follows:

- Female: 24
- Chartered Accountant: Passed in 2018, Ranker at all levels, 73% overall
- Experience: 3 years Articleship at one of big-4s, 2 years at a Bulge Bracket IB middle office

I'm looking for help in evaluation of my profile, I'm planning to apply in Jan if my Articleship experience at the big 4 can help elevate my profile which has low work ex. I have alot of extra curriculars in my resume, also a part of World Economic Forum. The only concern I have is the work experience. Can anyone please help me.

My dream colleges are Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Insead, LBS and HEC.

I really appreciate your advice.

Hi there Ricbh,

I don't think you can ignore the work experience part -- it's important! These are, after all, professional programs. So my suggestion would be to wait until you've got more leadership and experience given the above, but if you must apply now then be sure to highlight the impact you've had where you've worked. Hard to evaluate your chances since you haven't taken the GMAT yet, but in general if you have drawbacks of any kind, it can be helpful to bring high GMAT scores to the table, so do your best (crossing fingers for you!). Of the schools you list, I think your best odds might be at LBS, but they care about high scores...good luck! If you want to apply ASAP, expand your list beyond those names to improve your chances of success!

Thanks for replying. I completely understand the importance of work experience. My question is since I have relevant leadership experience in my Articleship at the Big-4s during my Chartered Accountancy course, will that be something that elevates my profile?

Hi Ricbh,

You've picked some highly competitive schools. While your profile might receive something of a boost from this experience, my guess is that your articleship won't be as large a boost as you are probably hoping. If you must apply now, expand your list beyond the schools listed for the best chances of success...or wait and come at the process later with more work experience, hopefully strong leadership, and a great GMAT score!
