Hi Admissionado/Jon,
I request you to please give me an evaluation of my profile:
Age: 27
Nationality: Indian
Gender: Female
Undergrad: LSR/Delhi Univ., India (well known college for top schools) 75% Distinction (ranking in the top 5% of the Univ.)
Masters degree: an MSc. Finance from the London School of Economics, London (63% Merit)
GMAT: 680 (49Q/34V) (first attempt)
Work Experience: 5 years all entrepreneurial
Worked in setting up 2 startups successfully as part of the core team
- a big German company's operations in New Delhi in the business of kitchen furniture: Business Development, Marketing, Team building, with significant international exposure (business/trade) (3 years)
- a kellogg/sloan alum startup alongside founders in E-Commerce (home /furniture products): Business development, Operations, Marketing, Social Media: Set up team, managed team and growth (1.2 years)
Currently (Since Jan 2013)
- setting up several functions in BD/marketing/operations in family business (well known brand in home/furniture/textiles) in India. Involved aggressively in several functions from end to end.
Extra curricular:
College:
- Served as Student union President in undergrad- several all india level college activities
- completed 150 hours of community service
Post college:
- LSE executive committee core member, LSR alumni committee core member, active member at important NGO in India in education (since 2012), completed a PG diploma in Journalism, actively attended business forums/certifications
Post MBA goals: Specific international aspirations for family business- specifically interesting in growing operations, marketing, business development, Ecommerce for consumer products (living, home, furniture segment)
+ entrepreneurial aspirations from there based on collective experiences.
The schools applied to include some of the top 15 US schools in Round 2. (does not include HSB, Stanford and Wharton)
The only worrying link in a pretty crisp/clear profile is my marginally low GMAT, although I have high grades in quant subjects in college , masters and a good quant score on the gmat. Expecting great recommendations.

Hey there!
Thanks for dropping by. So I just had a look at your resume and profile. I think you have some really nice stuff in your career. You have definitely not gone the most basic route, and a lot of your entrepreneurial experience will make you a very interesting candidate. One thing though that is hard to evaluate from your resume is the importance/size of these business you have worked for, and you may want to do something about that in your next version of your resume (meaning add some indication about company size or something) to put things into perspective.
Your extra curriculars seem diverse and full, so you can chalk that up as a strength.
Now although this work experience is very diverse and interesting, I think Top 15 schools might be a bit out of range. It's not the GMAT alone, but also the so-so academics, and the applicant pool (Indian, although it makes things easier that you are a woman), as well as not having a big traditional firm on the resume (it is both advantageous and non advantageous). If you had either one or the other that was a bit low then it would be easier, but I get the feeling that your sweet spot is more in the 20-40 range with your current scores.
Finally once more important thing to mention is that if your goals are to remain in the family business it is very helpful if we understand the size and potential of the business. There's a big difference between a five-man ship and a 500 person enterprise. And if it's on the larger/more promising side of things that should help you out so far.
I know you have already applied, so I don't know how much this evaluation will help at this point. I wish you luck even if your school list is a bit tough, and hope you will get in (despite my evaluation that it's a bit tough everywhere). But if it doesn't work out, speak to me, and we can figure out together how to work things so that next year they will turn out better,
