Hello all,
I’m planning to apply at Round 1 to NUS and NTU. Need your help in evaluating my profile and would like to know what I can strengthen in my application and which schools I should target in the UK (with scholarship).
Profile:
Female, age 30, Indian
Undergrad: Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering, CGPA:9.16
GMAT: 710 (Q48, V40), IR 5, AWA 4.5
TOEFL: 111
12 Boards: 94.8%
10 Boards: 94.8%
Work experience:
-4 yrs as a Manager
-4 yrs as a Senior Engineer in a Maharatna PSU in India.
Job role includes maintenance activities in a Petrochemical Plant, Project Management in Automation/Control Systems, Asset and Contract Management, Leading cross-functional teams to solve critical bottle necks, Ensure compliance to International Industrial Standards, Cyber security etc.
Additional/volunteering
- Represented organization in National-level PSPB Badminton tournament (Runners up)
- Lead Inter-departmental cultural competition team of 200 for three consecutive years (First)
- Took initiative to arrange scholarship opportunities for underprivileged kids with high merit in nearby village
Achievement/Awards:
- All India Rank-59 in GATE 2014
Post MBA goals:
Consultant roles in Energy Management/Decarbonization/Renewable Energy/ Climate Tech/Waste Management.

First, you did well, backing a 710 on your GMAT, and I can see you have a stellar academic profile and a strong overall GPA. Additionally, I would suggest adding a tad more about your overall statistics and information about any additional courses, certifications, and academic accolades. That should be it for you on the academic front.
About your work experience, you have a good amount of relevant experience. Hence I believe you wouldn’t be any short of stellar leadership examples and would sure have instances where you worked above and beyond your role for the benefit of your company! The biggest edge will be presenting these activities strategically and ensuring they don’t go unnoticed by the adcoms. Moreover, I would like to know your view on Executive-MBA as someone like you with so much experience would bring a lot to the table. Hence, for your reference, I suggest you go through our article on Top Executive MBA Programs, this would most certainly help provide insights and help you understand the EMBA curriculum. These one-year programs are meant to prepare an elite group of senior professionals like you with 8-18 years of work experience. Some excellent choices would be LBS, Sloan, Stanford MSx, MIT, and Sloan Fellows!
Coming to your ECA, I believe it could be your strongest asset! All you need to do now is elaborate on your ECAs, especially the leadership opportunities (both as a team player and as a leader), and portray the impact generated. That should help expand new horizons to start an interesting conversation between you and AdCom. Also, for your reference, I suggest you go through our article on How to draft Exemplary ECAs for MBA Application, to understand the importance of drafting ECAs essays that inspires!
Overall, you do have a great profile. NUS greatly stresses academic excellence and is quite transparent about this fact. However, it does look beyond academics and work; hence, I would like you to highlight your ECAs to add a unique personality and charisma to your B-school essays! For schools in the UK, I would suggest Judge Business School, Imperial College Business School, Saïd Oxford, and Warwick Business School. However, some criteria may differ in terms of experience, ECAs, and overall profile. I'm not as confident as the previous poster about your extracurricular activities. You cite a few interesting examples, but it would be helpful to know more about the depths of these accomplishments. Are they significant enough that you can speak to them in an interview or write about them with detail in your essays?
A 710 is a great score! That said, it's not spectacular for an Indian candidate unfortunately. That might not prevent you from gaining admission to the UK schools but it could have an impact on potential scholarship money. You don't necessarily have to retake the exam (you might be better off focusing on your applications as this point) but if you are really gunning for scholarships, you might have to consider it.
I agree with the list in the previous post. LBS and LSE might be a stretch too far, but certainly apply if you want to and have the time. The others are much more in your range.
