Hey Jon , first of all thank you very much for all your comments. As it has given me a proper evaluation of my profile.
The two challenges with my profile that you have pointed out
1. Being an Indian candidate
2.a non famous undergrad college.
Are for sure weak points in my profile .
But as you said , I do have a lot of extra curricular activities which i hadnt included before, like being a National level swimmer ,
head of the student government at the school and college level,
having had conducted various events
(1. after school especials for underpiviledged kids,
2. blood dination camps at the college campus,
3.organised a national level event in my college in collaboration with a local NGO with former President APJ Abdul Kalam as thr chief spokesperson)
through school , college and even after that.
So I suppose things like this should help me overcome the two mentioned issues.
And yes the question of how high should I be aiming still remains.
In your opinion , Should I be considering the MSF program at MIT, or the MSFE at UCLA ?

Please let me know, as your opinions are very valuable and helpful.
Thank you.

P.S Everyone's comments / suggestions are welcomed .

Hey there,
Soooo I think you can try both programs. MIT will definitely be the harder of the two, as GMATs there are much higher (plus it's MIT :) ) But you can take your shot as long as you balance it out with some (one or two) safe schools so that you have an overall balanced strategy.

Make sense?
Hope so,
JF

Hey Jon,
Yes that certainly makes sense, this is a list of colleges and how I have categorized them. Please take and look and let me know of your opinions.
DREAM
1.UCLA-
2.CMU-
3.UC Berkely-

Moderate:
Simon SOB-Rochester
Mc Combs Texas.
Washington Olin
Ohio Fisher

I am not sure if the dream colleges will too competitive or within reach. Please let me know of your views.

Okay, I pretty much agree with your evaluation. How many schools you will want to apply to will depend on you (And how much time you have :) ) Obviously, you'd want to apply to more "moderate" than dream schools if your time is limited. (so like 3 moderate schools and two dreams, let's say), but if you can apply to ALL by all means... It will only increase your chances. (As long as you take the time to make amazing applications for each and every one, of course).

Hey Jon,
thank you very much for your reply.
I was going through the deadlines for UC Berkeley , And turns out that they have their 4th round of applications going now as they have a spring intake. So is it advisable to apply in the 4th round being an international applicant ?
Also While browsing the website of Boston Carrol, I came across a note from the dean of the MSF program, stating that international students should not hope to secure jobs after their masters. Should I consider this to a red flag?
Please let me know of your views and opinions.

So first of all, it's always NOT a good idea to apply last round. It makes things too tough. And as for the note about not expecting a job. It's their caveat. Meaning they don't want to guarantee you anything. And any school could have written that. So I think it's no easier nor harder to get a job when you graduate from there than anywhere else. Obviously, the better school you go to, the more employable you are.
