I was hoping to pursue a sales &/ marketing or entrepreneurship MBA and hope to either start my own or work with a startup on graduation. Do I stand a chance at any of the top 10's ( Stanford, Harvard, Kellogg, Tuck, LSB etc)?
What would be the correct schools for me? In the US and outside the US ( Australia or Asia that has comparable value in the job market )?
Other Note :
I was preparing for my MBA and taking my GMAT in June 2021, when my father passed away suddenly due to COVID. I however, managed to change my job ( with a 3x salary improvement from project to product management ) in the next 4 months and returned and took my GMAT the next year. Should I mention the same in my essay to show grit and desire for the MBA?
Thank you again for reviewing the above.
HrithuOlickel,
There is a good balance between ECAs and the work experience. and there are leadership responsibilities both at work and outside. That makes for a good profile.
A well executed application, with super strong resume, essays and recommendations will obviously increase your chances of admits. As you are still some distance from writing these, i will focus on what you can do to improve your profile:
1. I am sure you will not like to read this, but another GMAT attempt with an eye for 740+ score will be very helpful. You have time over the next 3-4 months to retake, so consider this seriously.
2. Your goals are scattered and need considerable research. Frankly you don't need an MBA to work at a startup. They will gladly hire you even now. the other thing is,, if you want to work at a well funded startup it may be a different thing, but an early stage startup may not be able to afford your post MBA salary expectation. In either case, a startup may not be willing to sponsor your H1B visa. So doing an MBA to get into a startup doesn't sound convincing.
3. Regarding your dad (sorry to know) - you may want to talk about him depending upon how your applications develop and if you find the context to mention about him.
