Hi Jon,

Thanks for the encouragement :)

While getting a job in the pharma industry is not a hassle i think getting into B-school is , especially when there are zillions of Indians with tech/consulting/finance backgrounds , 700+ GMAT scores and excellent extra- curricular. That said, I feel the bar for Indian applicants is quite high these days.
I have been advised to raise my GMAT score to stand a better chance at any of the schools in my list. However, given the fact that the score is not going up (rather declining) , i feel i'll be wasting my time re-appearing and then, losing out on the 660 also. - which i plan to use for R1/R2 deadlines this year. However, will the adcoms look at the other scores also and how do declining scores reflect on the application?

Also, what's your take on expanding the list. If at all reqd.

Look forward to!

Thanks
Gauri

Hi Gauri,
So you are right that the bar is quite high for Indian applicants especially. But that is why you have at least two advantages over the thousands of tech candidates (there aren't that many finance candidates… not going in… :) ), being from pharma and being female.

About your GMAT, now obviously it would be better if you could get higher, but as you have mentioned you took it twice more and it is not getting higher. So at some point, even if it's lower than you would like, it's probably better to accept that your score has reached a certain limit, and to go with it. Unless you know that you can get higher, then maybe it would be worth it. But that is something you need to decide for yourself and not go on the basis of "Ah, I'll retake because it would be awesome if I got a higher score."

The AdComs will of course see your other scores, and it will give you a tiny weeny disadvantage, but let's not let them worry about that by distracting them with an awesome application!
:)

Hope this helps,
Jon

Well, probably your sweet spot will be in schools between the ranking of about 20 and 50. Cross-reference the regular rankings with specific Healthcare/Pharma rankings (like here: https://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... t-rankings) and also do a bit of research to see the schools employment reports and see if the school sends folks to big Pharma firms.

Hope this helps!
