Dear @
ameyabarve,
Academics wise – GPA, 12[sup]th[/sup] score etc. you definitely are placed above an average applicant.
GMAT wise you are just about there. The fact that a lot of CA applicants have been applying to ISB over the last few years, makes it extremely important for you to stand out and show differentiating elements in your profile.
In terms of work ex, while 3 years is on the lower end specially considering ISB has launched a new program for applicants on the lower side of work ex, you need to showcase leadership elements in your profile. Also, for a layman reviewer of your application, it is difficult to relate how a person with a finance background was adding value in Technology Consulting setup. If you play your cards well (craft a compelling narrative), you can use this opportunity to demonstrate differentiation in your profile – showing a blend of how you understand elements of both technology & finance, which most CAs would not have got an opportunity to work on.
As far as short term career goals are concerned you have mentioned 5 distinct paths. Needless to say, you will have to narrow down to 1 specific goal, wherein you show that you will leverage your past experiences along with the MBA learnings to contribute.
As far as ECs are concerned, beach cleaning drives are something that a lot of applicants from the Konkan belt show as a CSR endeavor. However, the food stall setup bit can be portrayed as a passion and way to express yourself via something you are like (food) – more than entrepreneurship, the story can be more towards a medium of expression and connecting with broader community on a topic of interest.
Overall, as an ISB alum (CO15), I feel that you need to think out of the box as far as your application is concerned to have a good shot at making the cut. You need to think what other CAs would be talking about and keeping that in mind, showcase differentiation that is aligned with ISB’s theme of peer to peer learning.
