Hi Iamintellman,

Thanks for sharing your profile. To first address your concern regarding work experience, 5 years is well within range and is actually the average for a lot of MBA programs. For reference, the range of years of work experience at INSEAD was 3-8 years in the latest class profile (LBS is likely similar).

Of course, determining whether now is the right time for you to apply will come down to a variety of factors. Have you plateaued at work? Are you ready to switch careers? Does your personal situation make now a good time to become a student?

From what you have shared, it seems that you have sufficient leadership experience to be considered a strong candidate. While your undergrad GPA is on the low side, securing a strong GMAT score will help offset this. Have you started the test prep process? Personal MBA Coach offers customized tutoring services with tutors who have scored in the 99th+ percentile and are graduates of MIT, Harvard, UPenn, Yale, Columbia and more.

Looking at your work experience, coming from a pharmaceutical firm can certainly work in your favor. Business schools desire well-rounded classmates and appreciate the unique perspective that candidates from different backgrounds can bring to class conversations. Though more conventional, your investment banking experience is also valuable.

Feel free to send a note to scott@personalmbacoach.com if you would like to discuss how we can help maximize your chances for success (take a look at our comprehensive packages for more info).

Regards,

Hi guys, I am planning to apply to LBS for its MBA programme for 2023 intake.
I currently work as a strategy manager at a pharmaceutical firm based in London. The firm is based in London but has offices in the Middle East as well as India. I basically work with the CEO to raise capital, work with bankers, identify potential markets and perform market research. I have made pitch decks for investors as well as clients and have been a part of the global sales efforts as well.
I also interact with universities within U.K. for our demand for Human Resources (broad level skill and training requirements are discussed so that universities can incorporate them into their training programmes).
I previously worked as a consultant with a big4 in their front office consulting (treasury transformation and cost optimisation) team based out of Mumbai for over 3 years. I also performed well at a secondment where I had to manage an AUM and liquidity of around GBP 750 million for a telecommunications major in india and also received an LoR from the client during a 6 month stint while I was working with the Big4.

I also also worked with a Bulge bracket investment bank in their Mumbai office (Middle office role wherein i interacted with onshore teams from NY/LDN/HongKong etc to analyse derivative products sold by the bank) for around 10 months before my big4 job. I am a graduate in finance from NMIMS . I have been keen on wanting to apply to top European programmes but at unsure about any programme outside of LBS and INSEAD.
I would be really grateful if you can help me with this dilemma:
1. I am considering applying to LBS and INSEAD for my MBA this year, I wanted to know if my profile would be suitable or should I gather some more work experience before applying.
I have a total of 5 years of professional work experience.
2. My target is to work for internal strategy/leadership programmes with corporates/banks post MBA.

Stats
Age : 26
Undergraduate CGPA: 3.05/4
Targeted GMAT score: 750 and above
Additional Certifications: Cleared FRM Level 1

Any feedback is highly appreciated
Regards,

Hi Iamintellman hope you are well

Strong profile indeed and favorable odds for both LBS and INSEAD.
With 5 years of growth trajectory, this is the ideal time to apply for an MBA program provided you are able to attain your desired GMAT score soon. Will this be your second MBA since you mentioned you are a graduate of NMIMs in Finance? Whether this is the case or not, make sure you address very well the reasons behind why do you feel the need to get an MBA at this point - limited opportunities and network, gaps in skillsets that you need to grow further, or, industry switch (for example from pharma to banks/other MNCs).

You must also understand that both these schools put a high emphasis on finding the right fit in the applicants. Make an effort to connect with alums (or potential recruiters) from these schools to understand the culture, opportunities and how would you be able to thrive in the program. Gather insights on how you would be able to contribute meaningfully to the cohort given your prior experience and present your takeaways in the essays. If you wish to stand out as an exceptional applicant, think about your long-term vision and what aspirational and inspirational goals would you set for yourself such that your short term goals seem conscientious for your professional journey.

Best wishes

Thanks MBA guide:
To answer your questions:
I have not pursued an mba in the last, my NMIMS degree is a BBA in finance.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I will surely reach out to alums if the respective colleges and take this further.
