Asian Male : 28 yrs
GMAT 610 (Q44 , V30 , AWA 5.5), GPA (out of 10) 8.4/10
Undergrad: B-Tech in Electronics and communication (4 yrs) from one of the top 10 Universities in India.
Extracurricular Activities:
• Volunteering various blood-donation camps and social awareness campaigns. Associated with ITMR Hyderabad (known regional Blood bank and social diagnostic association).
Awards and recognition :
Rise Award for 3rd quarter 2010 in HSBC.
Categorized as ‘Exceptional Performer’ in the annual appraisal rating; among top 5% in more than 10000 professionals (2009-10) in HSBC.
Centre of Excellence award by HTSE Software House for 2nd quarter 2009 by HTSE UK.
Awarded ‘The Most Valuable Player’ within the business unit in IBM based on the performance and feedback received from client management team and end-users (2007-08)
Total Work Exp : 5 yrs
Previous Experience:
Started as Associate system Engineer with IT Giant IBM and worked on technical designs in Information system in Energy and Utilities Domain. Received appreciation from Clients National Grid , Syracuse US .
Current Employment:
Working as IT consultant in Financial Domain with Banking Giant HSBC since 2008. Have onshore and international exposure with clients and customers based out of Europe (UK, Germany, Poland, Euro zone) , Asia (HK, China
and Malaysia) and US/Canada (Tampa, Vancouver)
Target Programs: Any Top/Good Europe or North America 1 yrs MBA program .
Career Goals: Short term goal would be joining as consultant business systems (can be in information solutions as having finance domain knowledge) in Financial or any domain, and later on with gaining experience would
like to open own Firm in Information solutions.
I'm trying to be as realistic as possible as I enter the application process. I know that my GMAT scores are not very good and most US two programs would not be giving a value for it, though I will seek to leverage my experience with HSBC and working in cross cultural environment as much as possible. Please share your thoughts on the same.

Your self-assessment is accurate. Your GMAT would potentially be a significant challenge, and your experience would be your assets.
Focus on using your leadership to differentiate your from your peer group. Your competitiveness will come down to the quality of your leadership experience in and out of work. Can you draw upon “moments” when you truly led: influenced individuals and organizations, drove results, took initiative? I would lean on the specific work that earned you all those awards at HSBC and IBM!
In targeting suitable schools in the US, a good place to start would be to compile a list of programs that have a mean or median GMAT score close to yours. You should be competitive here. My rule of thumb is that if your GMAT score falls within the middle 80% range at a school, you have a shot. Otherwise, it could be an uphill battle.
