1. Background:
I live in the US and was born in Ecuador. 26 y/o (27 in December).
Graduated from Rutgers University (Finance major, Econ minor, 3.6 GPA).
Started at community college after struggling in high school - turned things around.
2. Work Experience
3+ years in boutique investment banking (5-person team).
Started off as intern -> analayst -> associate
Focus on sourcing and executing co-investment deals with family offices.
Responsibilities include investor outreach, pitch creation, market research, and execution support (teasers, CIMs, models).
Also contribute to fundraising strategy, KPI tracking, and ad-hoc strategic projects, and lead summer analysts
Work is 1099-based under an independent contractor structure but treated as full-time (40 hrs/week).
3. Test & Goals:
Targeting 700+ GMAT (open to Bocconi test too).
Currently studying for official Italian B1 certification and then do B2.
Goal: relocate to Milan and work in Investment banking or private equity post-MBA, long-term career in Italy.
4. Other Info / Concerns:
I overcame a stuttering issue I had until the age of 25 and am fluent now, I do Spartan races, half-marathons - big on fitness and personal development.
Concerns:
***Concerned about lack of brand-name firm and 1099 income structure. Not sure if I should leave my firm and work somewhere else before I apply. I do work 40-60 hours a week and have gotten paid everytime a deal closes.
Planning to apply R1 or R2 for 2026 intake. Am I too young and need more experience and should I wait 2-3 more years? I am open to applying when I am 28 - R1 or R2 2027
Would appreciate any feedback - especially on fit with SDA and profile competitiveness. Thanks!
