I am posting here for the first time. However, i have been reading this forum from quite some time as well as reading about various people. Its been a great learning. But I have started doubting my decision to appear for GMAT now.
I am currently an Officer in Indian Army. and I cannot apply for release till I am at least 32 as that's my mandatory serving period. My academic profile is such:
10th : 85 %
12th : 82 %
Bachelor in Science : 6.5/10
MBA from Distance learning : 6.7/10
I have been a troop commander for 4 years and have managed a troop of 40 individuals in varied terrains such as high altitude areas as well as glaciated terrain. I have also performed the duties of sub unit commander where in I have led and managed a team of 120 individuals to include their training, leaves and professional competence. I have also planned, executed and led various operations with my troops.
I wanted to appear for GMAT and move to field of management consulting and get exposure in problems of the civil domain after completing a full time MBA program from Tier I college.
If you could pls guide if my approach is correct or should I think of something else?

Your approach is fine. Military service is considered, in many respects, like work experience. It is very dignified and legitimate, so don't feel secondary.
Because you will be on the older side you will need to move quickly to get ready for your application. Yes, take the GMAT first. That will be important to give you direction as to which schools are most appropriate for admission.
After you take the GMAT (or before, if you wish), please reach out to us for a free consultation so we can discuss your background in more detail and build a plan of action towards applying in the most optimal way.
