Hi Jon,
The reason why I wanna do MIM is, I come from a tech heavy school from a tech heavy area in India. Though a top school, there is not many people going to business studies or business related jobs like marketing, consulting, biz dev etc. So, I have almost no alumni who are in these sectors and can help/ guide me. Even if I am to try by myself, The job that I will get outside of tech will be mediocre and will certainly not take me to top 20 MBA programs. So I am planning to do an MIM in order to get a head start in my career. This would provide me with a terrific network and would open more doors for me.

About the goals, for around 7-10 years after the MIM, I plan to get into and stick to FO IB positions. It doesn't matter much if I do not get into a BB IB and only into a middle market or a elite boutique, as I am not in it only for the money. I want to learn the tricks of trade to achieve my long term goals of being a fund manager or owning my own boutique IB. So, the background and network is really really important for me. That is why Edhec has been on top of IE/ Esade in my pref list, even though it is ranked less among these schools.

On another note, I see a lot of people doing MBA in top 10 after their MIMs. I mean, after MIM, they work for around 3-4 years and go to school again. I contacted a couple of them and they told me if you can justify why you need another grad degree, actually having an MIM helps to differentiate yourself. So what do you think about this. Though doing an MBA is not in my plan right now, I would like to keep my options open.

Btw thanks a lot man for replying :)

Hey dude,
Well my first thought is that if you really want to get into finance, you might want to do a MFin or some other Finance/Math degree that will get you into finance immediately (maybe not IB, cause that's real tough). The degree is less general than an MBA, and especially at the beginning of your career this can help you break into finance.

Any thoughts?

Best,
Jon
