Hello AM -
The application process is truly holistic, and the NUS committee will look at your stats (GPA and GMAT), work experience, and extracurriculars.
Your GPA is strong, so that is a good start. Your GMAT is also very strong, though compared to others in your demographic, it is about the average. If you haven’t already, I suggest taking it up to 3-4 times. You have nothing to lose since schools will only look at your highest score. And even a slight increase can boost your profile.
It is hard to gauge your work experience without knowing your accomplishments and impact you have made there. It is nice to see that you have led teams, as well as having already been promoted. Do your best to emphasize your leadership experiences. Since you are a software engineer, it is clear you have the quant ability to succeed. But you will also need to illustrate that you have been a leader and that you work well with others. It will also be important to explain why you want your MBA, and to also illustrate the skills you already have which are transferable. Be sure your story makes sense, and is realistic and specific.
Regarding extracurriculars, make sure to really emphasize your leadership roles you have taken on. Leading the team in an NGO certainly sounds impressive; that is one aspect of your profile on which you can elaborate.
You do have a chance at NUS, but you are right that you will really need to differentiate yourself from other Indian male engineers. Just in case, I do suggest you apply to several schools, including reach, target and safety. Applying in Round 2 is still fine, and only slightly more competitive than had you applied in Round 1. Best of luck with your application to NUS (and other schools). Hopefully they will see that you have a compelling story and are someone who will add value to the classroom and community.
