Hello, I realize that this is mostly an advisory for MBA, but was wondering if you could provide any insight regarding chances of admission for Finance PhD at a US University. If not, please let me know and I can delete post.
Gender: Male
Age: 20 (21 at time of graduation)
Nationality: US Citizen
Ethnicity: Caucasian
GPA: 4.0 Undergrad-State school in Texas
Degree: Finance
Official Score #1: 780 (Q51/V48)
I know that research is heavily considered and is the main consideration when reviewing applications. My only research experience is being a research assistant for professors at my school. I realize that many would complete an MS Finance or similar before enrolling in a PhD, but this would not be an option for me unless I could get a scholarship for MS Finance. (Especially considering I may be in school for several years after completing Masters.) I would not be planning to apply to the very top schools.
Again I realize that this is not your specialty, but any insight is appreciated.

Hey,
Well you are very young so it's great that you are thinking about it already. What you have now is great grades and a great GMAT. To get into a good PhD program you will need first and foremost the support of your professors, and then yes, as you may have guessed any and all experience in teaching or research can be invaluable. It can be in an academic context, or a non-academic context (a job), but as long as you keep in mind your goals, you are good. When choosing your Masters and your PhD it is vital that you choose programs not only by ranking but also by department and professor (i.e. the "Best" professors in many sub-fields, the people who will supervise your thesis, are not always necessarily at the schools you would expect).
Other than that it's like everything else - volunteer, do extra curriculars, focus on teaching, TAing, research, keep those grades super high, cultivate your personal relationships, and you will be juuuust fine.
