Reasons for Applying: I am an MD looking to transition into Healthcare Consulting
1) Basic demographic info:
28 years old, male, South Asian Ethnicity, but essentially bred in UK since young age
2) Educational Background:
- GMAT: 740, v46 Q45 AWA 5.5
- Passed first 2 parts of MRCP (Membership of Royal College of Physicians) first time (note ~40% pass rate on each)
- Undergrad: BA in Medical Sciences (Oxbridge). GPA: 3.3? (have yet to find satisfactory conversion for my degree classification: 2:2 but just below 2:1 boundary)
- Graduate School : MBBS (MD) at top London Medical School. Comfortable passes in written exams. GPA 3.5?
3) Work experience:
- Current job: Strategy Consulting (intern), boutique London Professional Services Advisory Firm.
Previous job: Resident in Internal Medicine (leading UK Teaching Hospital). Undertook paid research with leading UK healthcare think-tank on Improving Doctors’ Productivity. Led 20-strong multi-disciplinary team. Teaching experience of interns and medical students.
- Other jobs: Intern (medicine). Published case report in internationally-renowned peer-review journal
4) Extracurriculars:
- Undergrad: elected college student union secretary. College badminton captain.
- Post-grad: National association of medical schools cricket champions
5) Short/Long term goals:
Primarily management consulting, ideally in healthcare, at top tier firm. Looking to gain general management experience, build baseline of modelling skills, and experience in strategy.
Possibly moving into entrepreneurship with the right opportunity.
My first choice job location would be London.
6) Schools: Which schools have you considered already? Any on your initial short list?
LBS, INSEAD, IMD, Wharton, Stanford (Any other recommendations particularly European schools?)
