Hi there,

Ok, so you have some strengths and weaknesses and unknowns here...

Strengths:

GMAT score
Less-common nationality among applicants
Less traditional background
Teaching/communication skills
Language skills

Weaknesses:

Undergrad GPA (side note-- does that mean '4.0' GPA in masters?? which does help)
Potentially confusing 'story' or path...engineering, to arts, to teaching, to translating, to hedge funds?? Can sound scattered and unsure.
10 years of work experience puts you on the extreme end of years of work experience--i.e. do you truly need an MBA at this point?

Unknowns:

Examples of leadership? Making an impact? Achievements?
Community involvement?
Essays/recommendations/interview

So based on the above, it's hard to give an overall assessment with many unknowns. I'd say the top 20 will be challenging, but WITH strong essays and some kind of compelling case of why your story is so varied and why you really need the MBA and how your next steps will work etc, you could apply to 1-2 as 'reach' schools, then a few outside the top 20.

My story is not confusing. I am just talented at all these fields. whenever I had a go at a language-related field, I soon would come as top. Engineering was a mistake from the beginning. My years of experience is part-time during my undergraduate. And I was a teacher and a translator at the same time. Regrading leadership, I don't know what to say I am just a good teacher. No community involvement,.... Excellent ability to write. I am more like a philosopher than a businessman, I am taciturn but I can be extraordinarily eloquent at times. Yes my GPA is 4 at masters. By the way, I can get a 168 on verbal section of GRE if I take it again. The reason I am starting to be into hedge fund is that the more I read about that the more I find out that it is the field for philosophy-oriented people and I want to put my creative ideas into practice.

Hi there,

Thanks for the responses. In terms of the potential to sound 'confusing', I am simply reflecting how your story could come across to a reader who does not know you. However you can address this in the essays and interview and explain how your path came about, how one thing led to the next, what you gained from each step and what you'll therefore bring to your future career. In terms of teaching, you can think about how you influenced those you taught and made an impact, that demonstrates leadership, communication skills, and ability to impact others. Good luck to you!
