LordCheems
Hi, I'd really appreciate it if someone reviewed my profile.
Background: Indian, 28M (at matriculation), BE(Hons) Computer Science from a top college in India (BITS Pilani)
CGPA: 7.9/10
GMAT: 720(Q51, V35) (I was well on track for 750+, made a silly error, and lost a lot of time.)
Since I had to undergo a crucial surgery, I did not want to waste the score and applied to Fuqua and Johnson.
Did not receive an invite at Fuqua and awaiting the result at Cornell Johnson.
I am preparing for GMAT again since I believe I can score better and want to target R2 at my dream schools.
Work Ex: 2 yrs at Oracle, 2 yrs at FAANG, Currently CTO of my own startup.
I will have ~5 yrs of work exp at matriculation.
What has changed from R1 to R2 ?
As of now, nothing. However, I believe that my startup will be live before R2 applications. Will the revenue generated help my profile?
Does having a pre-seed startup negatively affect the application?
Post MBA industry: I would like to continue with Tech and climb my way up to leadership roles(ultimate goal)
Alternative: Consulting
Target Schools:
Ambitious: HBS, GSB [Will only apply if my score is exceptional]
My actual target: Kellog, Yale, Haas, Sloan [Considering I am able to increase my score by 20-30 pts]
Safe: Tepper
Thanks and Regards
You've got a solid foundation with your BITS Pilani degree and a decent GPA. Your work experience is impressive—Oracle, FAANG, and now CTO at your startup. That's a narrative that can really stand out.
The GMAT score is good, but yeah, for the big guns like HBS and GSB, pushing it a bit higher can make a real difference. It's competitive out there, and every point counts.
Your startup going live is exciting and can definitely add to your story. Revenue is a bonus that can show some early success. Don't worry about the startup vibe being a negative. It's the opposite. It shows initiative and leadership.
For R2, with a stronger GMAT and your startup gaining some traction, schools like Kellogg, Yale, Haas, and Sloan are within reach.
