Hi, and thanks for writing! You have strong professional experience (assuming that your responsibilities increased over time at your two firms and that you're very confident about the recommendations you'll receive). Are you involved in any extracurriculars, either within or outside of the firm? Also, have you guided/mentored/trained individuals at either firm? These are some of the factors I've seen lead to success for finance applicants. Also, given that you're applying from a competitive pool (male in finance) a 730+ GMAT would be ideal, though I know you've taken it a few times.
Prospect2020
Hello,
I was hoping you could give me your opinion on my profile for business school. I am targeting top 10 programs and would ideally like to go to HBS, Stanford, Wharton, or Columbia.
My Details:
- 26 Y/O White Male
- 3.7 Undergrad GPA from the University of Virginia. Double concentrations in Finance and Accounting
- 2 years working in NYC in the top investment banking group for a bulge bracket bank (Senior Investment Banking Analyst)
- Currently in my second year working in a lower middle market private equity firm in NYC (Associate)
- GMAT: 710 (Q47 / V41) on third attempt
Business School Goals (Briefly):
Throughout my current work experience, I have developed strong skills in financial analysis & valuation and analyzing industry trends, and am refining my investor's judgement in my current job. I would like to develop a more holistic knowledge of business outside of financial knowledge (e.g. sales & marketing functions, pricing strategies, deeper accounting practices, operational strategies, etc.). This broader business knowledge would aid me in my career in private equity by helping me communicate better with the executives running portfolio companies and allow me to aid in the value creation process. Business school would also provide me with an invaluable network.
How does my profile line up with my target schools? Thank you very much in advance for your time and please let me know if there is any further info I can provide that may help in your assessment.
