Profile Evaluation/Questions - No GMAT

Question

Thanks to everyone taking the time to look at my post. Here is a brief summary of my CV/application stats (I can elaborate if needed): Demographics : 30, Male, California Native American/Alaskan Native/Native Hawaiian (with documentation) Education : 3.25 from California State University system B.S. Cell and Molecular Biology Minor in Chemistry Certification in Biotechnology Extracurricular Activities : (I've truncated this list a bit for everyone's sakes

) Student Government Chair of Student Health Committee Director in a student-ran internship in a medical center (UGrad Internship) Biology Club President Work Experience : 5+ years in a clinical lab (Fortune 500, non-management) Target GMAT Score : 650+ I definitely plan on posting a more thorough CV once I take the GMAT in a couple months. I'm mainly looking to get an appraisal on my chances to top 20-30 business schools (even top 10, but I understand my grades aren't impressive). I'd also appreciate if anyone has some insight into The Consortium and how it relates to "Indigenous Americans'" applications? Any advice/questions/concerns welcome! Thanks, rpmba

I forgot to add my career goals in initial posting.

Career Goals :

I'm looking to get into investment/assets management as an emphasis. My long term goal is to work with native populations/organizations in either an official or unofficial capacity to develop financial infrastructure, businesses, etc.

You're definitely an interesting candidate. In terms of the Consortium - they work with Native Americans, and it seems that you have that in your background. Are you concerned that they will ask for some sort of documentation that you don't currently have? I think that the Consortium would be a good choice for applying to any participating schools you're interested in. If there are some schools outside of the Consortium you're interested in you would need to supply individual apps to those schools.

Lots of community activity which is great - was that mostly during college or have you remained active - that ties in well with your short-term career goals post-mba (working with Native American communities).

I'm a little concerned about the jump from your lab job to asset management though. Your stated short-term goals are an important data point in your application. Your undergrad and work experience are uniquely focused on biology....if you told me you wanted to gain business skills and then move into biotech or healthcare or ..... it might be more of a logical leap. Without seeing a resume or speaking with you though - this is all speculation and you may have a sound logic for wanting to move into asset management.

I think a lot will ride on your GMAT and your overall story when it comes down to making some final decisions about which schools to target. Right now I would say that you could potentially be a candidate in the top 20-5 category.
